Sweet crispy Christ, this. I like the emotion that Peeta/Gale and Katniss's non-romantic loved ones provide to the story and her experience, and some of the mushy gooey love moments are really sweet, but that is not the only thing I liked about these books. That wasn't even in the top ten of things I liked in these books. It does seem weird that this series has so many facets to it and the one thing most everyone focuses on is the romance subplot, which bas barely relevant to anything else in the story.

Woo, Katniss has these two subjectively hot boys who are in such devoted lovely love with her! Also, she is tough, brave, instrumental in bringing down the Evil Government, and shot the new President right in the goddamn face because it was the right thing. Priorities, y'all.

I don't really get seeing Katniss as the epic hero in the second or third books - she's basically a pawn. And killing Coin? How was that right? I saw that as a symptom of how effed up she was, it's not like shooting Coin was her only option.

That's why I said 'instrumental', not 'smushed the bad guys all by herself'.

I haven't read the books in a long, long time, so I might be misremembering, but as I recall Katniss shot Coin because she was planning to hold another Hunger Games, and everyone else used her being messed up as an excuse.
