Just a side question since I stopped watching the show a long time ago and am surprised by these little tidbits. Wasn't Klaus supposed to be the "Oldest Vampire in history" or something? Now I hear he has/had a sister as old as he, a father who was older and that he is mingling with the rest of the gang? What happened to all that hype?

The whole family became vampires at the same time so they are all "Originals." Four brothers, one sister, and their father. And their mother was a witch who cast the spell that made them that way (and the first white witch we've seen in show).

That's one of the few things this show does poorly, imo. They build up these characters to be thing biggest, scariest thing ever, and then they're introduced, and they're always some young, gorgeous 20-something, and it takes the scare right out of it. Klaus should have been an old dude with a sunken-in face who was super creepy looking. Like the guy who plays "Death" on Supernatural or something. I mean, look at Katherine. Everyone was terrified of her in the first season, and she shows up and she's actually kind of pathetic, and not scary AT ALL.
