I know how you feel OP. Rydia is my favorite FFIV character no matter what, but I was so sad when she came back grown up. I just loved the whole family feel Cecil, Rosa, and child!Rydia had when they were together.

I didn't mind the age up, loved it actually when I played it as a kid, but I can see why it could bother someone. Back then I wasn't very aware of character art, and I only had the sprites and my mostly innocent imagination to work with.

Now that I'm older, I totally side-eye when that sort of thing happens.

I'm interested in what it does for her character arc (never finished the game myself, really ought to) but I completely acknowledge that 99% of the fanbase sees only one thing when they look at her, and that's a real shame.

...It was so she could realistically be as good a summoner as she was. She accidentally summoned something in a moment of high emotions. That doesn't mean she could suddenly be a good summoner outside of high emotion.

Because nobody else in the entire game gained new abilities or anything like that without suddenly timeskipping ten years. I'm sure there's NO OTHER WAY Rydia could have gained control over her summoning.

I was always sad she lost her white magic.

Also, there's sort of a disconnect between child!Rydia and adult!Rydia's personality imo. Not that I'm really complaining, it just always felt a little off.

I'm going to have to disagree with you and say that I really appreciate how they aged her. She went from being a scared little girl to a confident woman, and she also got a nice healthy stat boost while she was at it. I think it was also interesting to see her as a parallel to Cecil as an exceptionally gifted orphan who needs to find her place in the world and decide what she's fighting for. Still, it's kind of unfair that all of Rydia's character development happens off screen. That's kind of lame.

As for the secret, meh, I remember liking both Child!Rydia and Adult!Rydia. I also shipped Edge and Adult!Rydia, so yeah.
