I didn't like him because a lot of the time they didn't give enough reason why he was better at something than everyone else. He was just "The Chosen One". Like the video game drug thing, I'm supposed to believe a young male is less interested in video games than every single other person on the ship? I think Wil Wheaton did a write up one time on the first episode he was in, pointing out all the bad writing involved. It wasn't so much that Wesley was smart, but that they made the other characters act unusually dumb to give him a chance to shine. If it was just him being smart it would have been better.
