I guess, when you get used to keep your fanish life to yourself in IRL, it tends to feel really akward to finally find someone whom you can talk about it. Even if I do wish to find someone to talk to about fandom, I guess if it really happened I would feel very freaked out. I don't know, maybe it's because it's something I've came to see it as something so intimate to share with others IRL, that it would feel like being naked in public or something.
It doesn't happen only in tv fandoms though. My SO lived the same thing with baseball, and when he finally found someone who could have shared his passion he felt so strange that he just couldn't share anything (I live in a country where not a lot of people like baseball). I knew he wanted too, but he just couldn't open...
