I think it's a situation where everyone feels left out, to be honest. It seems like whenever there's a conflict like that, everybody feels like they're the ones who have the unpopular opinions. It's usually not a one-sided thing, in my experience.

Though, I think it also depends a lot on the individual fandom, too. Climates can be different, and shift over time. Smaller communities/cliques within fandoms can make a difference, too. It's a much different experience to be part of a circle that mostly feels like you do, for example, than to be part of a circle that doesn't.

In general, it's not a matter of one "side" having it worse. It's a situation that tends to divide fandoms as a whole.
