I think it's a common opinion that R1 was better, from what I've heard.

I feel weird for liking both about equally, although I could've done without the whole Chinese Federation plot. At least R1 didn't have any arcs that felt boring to me.

I don't think I can choose one over the other. But that's cuz I marathoned the series and everything's blurred together. But I can say I LOVED both the finales, so I can never hate R2

The only really good thing about R2 was Gino. Possibly Jeremiah. And okay, the Demon Emperor/Knight of Zero costumes for the lulz. Everything else... there were some great moments, but overall I agree that the first season was better. (Seriously, WTF was that shit with Marianne and the World of C?)

Aww, I loved Gino. He was a perky, bubbly, adorable puppy with fighting skills. I shipped the hell out of him and Lelouch and kept hoping that Gino would fuck the stick out of Lelouch's ass make Lelouch return to his fucking senses and stop things going to hell in a basket. Alas, it was not to be. And I can't even turn to fic because Gino/Lelouch has like, five fics total. D:

Seconding the Gino love. The second season was a bit of a letdown for me, but Gino made it better.

As a side note, I never understood why everyone loves Jeremiah so much. I feel like there's some inside joke that I'm missing...

About Jeremiah, I can't speak for anyone else, but in a season where everyone betrayed everyone left, right, and center, suddenly changed their minds about things with no satisfactory explanation (CC, I'M LOOKING AT YOU!) it was nice to have a character that stuck to his convictions. If it helps, and possibly unpopular opinion time, I also like Rolo and Shirley. Plus, Jeremiah was so over the top with his eternal love loyalty to Lelouch that I couldn't helpbut root for him. My devoted little Orange ♥ (Yeah, I ship it.)

No idea why other people love him so much, though I suppose the 50% Human, 50% Machine, 200% MOTHERFUCKING LOYALTY macro didn't harm his popularity any ;)

Well, each secret gets a decent amount of comments, I'd say that there are people who still DO like that series a lot, especially with the added rumor of a possible third season.

I quite agree, sadly. While there were still moments that created emotional responses from me, there were a lot of times where it felt like R2 was more focused on pandering to various demographics, rather than trying to tell a story or developing the characters.
