Seriously? I hate this kind of bull-shit. Earth has had a fuck-ton worse to deal with trust me. Why don't ask a few scientist about how they think the moon was made, and then consider if we are even a scab on the ass of the planet worth picking at. Sooner or later there is going be another planet wide catastrophe/mass-extinction/whatever, that will more likely than have nothing to do with humanity. Maybe we'll meet out end there maybe not, in the long run, it doesn't matter because the entire universe will end a slow heat-death anyway.

"Right now" being, what, the Holocene period of extinction (spanning, like, 12,000 years)? (Or anthropocene, which overlaps much of that, depending on who you ask?) Or what?

Mass extinctions have occurred before and they will occur again. Just because we might be causing this one doesn't mean that the world won't keep on trucking with the surviving species flourishing in the wake of the extinct ones.

We might fuck things up for a lot of different species and maybe even for ourselves, but we aren't going to cause all life on earth to die out, and as long as some life exists new species will rise and the world will keep on going.

Anyway, I read somewhere that something like 99% of all the species that existed have gone extinct.
