However: You're right that the manner of our extinction would matter: Radiation and other fallout from nuclear wars would effect many (if not all) surviving species; people just dropping dead would provide food and possibly cause disease; and if we left in a mass evacuation, we might take many things with us, including our pets (unless there were space/resource issues).
