Ah, so you know how I feel. Yes, I just love that HIMYM manages to make you feel so happy in life even when it covers really dark issues. I've always felt connected to it (my dad was diagnosed with cancer the same month Marshall's dad died). It made me really appreciate all the small things in life and if I had never discovered it I don't know what my mental state would be right now. :')

That's so sad about your dad :( I don't know how I'd be able to watch that episode if something like that happened.

I've always kind of interpreted the story as, like, all the things that happens to you, even the bad things, are part of the story of your life so far and you'd do well to make it a story your kids will want to hear :) Makes you really appreciate all the little details.
