I've been trying to keep up with it in the hopes that those characters would show up. But I've basically given up hope, especially for Touya, cuz they never show the male protagonist from the games.

Ethan has had two anime counterparts; Jimmy from Raikou: Legend of Thunder (who's more like game!Ethan than Ash is like Red), and an unnamed trainer (named Hibiki [Ethan's Japanese name] in the JPN DVD credits) in Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

Brendan has had 3 anime cameos, in Jirachi: Wish Maker, Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, and Giratina and the Sky Warrior, shown battling in Battle Tower-like areas in the openings.

Lucas also cameo'd in Giratina and the Sky Warrior, battling against Brendan.

So while they haven't had the same roles that the female PCs have had, they have been shown.

It is of note, however, that of the female PCs, Leaf has never been shown even in cameo, Krys only has the counterpart of Marina in the Raikou special above, and Lyra only showed up in a 5-episode stretch. So, when you think of it, the girls aren't getting the greatest deal, either.

Adding May and Dawn, plus Lyra's stint, still doesn't add up anywhere near the number of episodes for Red/Ash, and there's 2 girls who haven't been shown at all, vs. the one boy.

I meant in the main anime, as an actual companion to Ash, since they did that with May and Dawn. Should've clarified that. Although you totally schooled me with your math, lol
But I'm still not gonna get my hopes up. I mostly wanna see how they deal with N not being all bad. They'll probably just not bother, though and put Ghetsis as the leader instead.

I pretty much got what you meant. But I remembered the Raikou special, and thought that I'd seen mention of the other boys being in the anime, but I thought it was more than just cameos (They give cameos to anyone... Including the guy who voiced the English and chorus work on the Japanese Pokerap). But by the point I realized it was just cameos, I'd already pulled up all the Bulbapedia pages on them to check, so I figured I might as well finish that off.

*blames this character for it, since he's a "look stuff up until you know everything" kinda guy*

I remembered when that first came out, involving commercials with Ethan and Lyra and I was planning on watching it, but missed it. And I probably never will, but that's okay.
And damn, that IS random ass cameo. Like, they had he own episode or something? I never knew there was a Japanese poke-rap. Always assumed it was an English thing.

It's called "Pokemon Ieru Ka na?" (Can you say the Pokemon?), and while it's not quite the same, it serves the same purpose as a list-song. The listing part is done by Imakuni!? (who was in the TCG video games for Game Boy), and Raymond did the singing and the English parts. Raymond was the guy with the Donphan that Ash beat at the beginning of the first movie.

Oh, hey, Youtube to the rescue! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ6sQ382hRU). Imakuni!? is the weird guy dancing, Raymond is the head floating in the back (IIRC, he's actually a) American, and b) black, which is really strange to be part of a Japanese group. Kobayashi, the third member of the group, is the female voice later in. They did a lot of work for early Pokemon stuff).

The hell was that video? XD Actually, the longer it went, the more I just went along with it. Thanks for showing me this! It's just so... I can't put into words what I thought.

Oh, btw, Raymond's cameo was more than just likeness, too. He voiced the character as well.

He voiced characters, too? See, I've never delved too much into the behind-the-scenes part of the anime, so forgive me for sounding so shocked. It's cool that he voiced a pokemon. I remember discussing with a friend how awesome that'd be.

Here's (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Suzukisan) the group. Imakuni? (oops, no ! in there, I'd messed up earlier) didn't do voices, but Kobayashi voiced Voyager in the first movie, and Raymond voiced himself. I actually saw the movie in Japanese before English, and I already had heard some of their songs by that point, so I thought it was awesome.

Voyager? I honestly can't remember him. Was he one of the pokemon trainers who their pokemon taken by Mewtwo? Oh god, it's been so long.
For me, it just sounds weird for Raymond to being saying other things, since I've only ever heard him do the Poke-rap and that's it.

Voyager was the older woman who told them all the legend about the storm or whatever. I wanna say that the other three trainers were supposed to represent people, too, but I don't remember who.

This feels familiar. Didn't we have a secret hoping N would show up in Best Wishes a couple weeks ago?

I hope so too OP. But seeing how shafted the male protags after Red/Ash into the minorest movie roles (the exception being Ethan/Gold) because the writers are apparently to afraid to have another male (main game) protag appear in the same scene as Ash, I doubt we'll ever see Touya/Hilbert. The other two have a chance though! As for Cheren? I doubt it, as it seems like he has been replaced by Shooty/Trip. ;_;

Wasn't N with a shadowy face appear supposed to appear in the unaired special?

It would be nice for N to have a cameo or something. They pretty much opened the door to that idea by having Bell/Bianca in it already.

I've given up hoping so that if N ever did appear, I can be pleasantly surprised.
