So if someone rapes someone, they don't deserve to be raped?

Let me put it this way, if your mother, sister, daughter, friend, or girlfriend was raped, her rapist was sent to jail, and you heard that he got raped in prison, your response wouldn't be "serves him right"?

I kind of find that hard to believe.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Has the concept that two wrongs don't make a right escaped you? I'd be angry as hell if someone hurt my family, or myself that way. However, that path, the' serves them right' path, is nothing but the beginning of a downward spiral of bitterness. I would say that it serves them tight that they were sent to jail, hopefully for a very long time.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Fucking please. If your daughter was raped by a man you certainly aren't going to be thinking, "oh, well, i hope this fellow doesn't come to harm because that would be unethical!". He's going to go to jail and every fucking day you're going to look at your shattered little girl and pray that that fucking monster is getting what he fucking deserves in prison, which is being anally raped by the largest, most vicious man in the place.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, because that will certainly solve things. Instead of putting my kid into therapy and doing my level best help him/her heal, I'll wish evil things on the person that hurt him/her. My focus would be on my child. And I wouldn't want that person raped, my base sense of personal revenge would want that person dead.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's completely impossible for someone to think/do both? Right.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not impossible, but it would make me no better than he is.

My personal anger at a situation and gut-based want for revenge =/= what I know to be right.

I mean, really, there's a reason I don't set fire to the people in every line I have to wait in, and it's not lack of wanting.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
It still takes a rapist to give that rapist his "deserved" rape.

So what about this new rapist?

Do we reward him for giving the former one what he "deserved"?

Or do we wait for another to rape him too?

And so on.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Typically, those rapists in prison who rape inmates who were pedophiles, molesters and rapists were in prison for some other reason not rape. So no, he wouldn't need to be raped--let them dole out the punishment.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
...What.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
huh?

but don't they become rapists once they rape those inmates? and just because rape wasn't the reason they were in prison, that doesn't mean they had never sexually assaulted someone previously.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
You make no fucking sense. You say that rapists deserve to be raped... but then some don't?

WTF are you on

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get what's so hard to understand.

By your logic, those who give the lethal injection to inmates on death row should be killed next.

If the rapist only rapes other rapists in a prison setting...really, who gives a rats ass? I'm not a rape victim, but I know a few who would have no qualms about their rapists getting what's coming to them several times over. It may be ethically wrong, but it still smells like justice to us.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
In my country, State murder is banned and I'm downright against it. Your argument is invalid.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
>I don't get what's so hard to understand.

Yeah, you don't get a lot of things.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
...I'd prefer my rapist was killed, to be honest, because rape is neither a punishment nor a permanent solution. When they get out of prison, you can bet they'll still be raping, and the experience of "getting what they deserve" might make it worse. The reaction won't be "man, that was a horrible thing for me to do." It's far more likely to be "I'm never going back to prison again, I'd better make sure this bitch doesn't talk."

Nobody can be as dumb as you, honestly, and as a rape survivor? Let me invite you to not speak for us. Ever.

This isn't actually the case. Rapists in prison for rape, and this may shock and amaze you, are statistically more likely to rape other inmates.

And do you think the other inmates in there getting raped are the ones doing thirty for murder/serial rapes/violent crime, or in fact, the guy who had too much pot on him/committed fraud/slept with their seventeen year old girlfriend etc?

What I'm saying here is revise your opinions, and I'm shocked I'd have to say this here but, stop fucking supporting rape you asshole!

(Anonymous) 2012-03-17 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
While it might be a natural human reaction to want someone who hurt your loved one to be hurt himself/herself, that doesn't make it right.

What if it turned out that the person who raped your loved one was a victim of rape prior to becoming a rapist? Does that somehow lessen his/her actions because that person was also a victim?

Rape is disgusting no matter who it happens to. Saying a rapist deserves to get raped is just continuing a cycle of violence that needs to be STOPPED.

[identity profile] kikkyo.livejournal.com 2012-03-17 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's not so much that he doesn't deserve it. It's that fighting rape with rape might not be the best approach or at least it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Two wrongs don't make a right. I'd just want him off the street so he couldn't hurt anyone else but I do think he'd deserve any punishment he was given, and whether or not it involved rape I still wouldn't actively wish rape on anyone.
