wait, how the hell is rape worse than all that other incredibly shitty stuff that happened to her? how she deserve all of that but not the rape?

I've been raped before, and if I had the choice between being raped again or nearly dying in a massacre and having my husband die, then I would have to choose the first option (not that either choice is desirable, of course).

I probably should have framed my comment better. Let me clarify, my opinion is that Lucretia paid the karma gods for her behavior with Crixus and Neavia. She lost nearly everything. The only thing she had left after Blood and Sand was her own bodily integrity and autonomy. So she didn't deserve to have that last thing taken from her too.

But even if she hadn't lost all that she had, I would still believe she didn't deserve to be raped. It's not more horrible than murder or masacre or losing a loved one, but it's still pretty horrible.

No one deserves to be raped.

Not even someone who poisons her father-in-law (and never mind who else along the way).

Not even someone who causes another murder by exposing an emotionally unstable friend to ridicule.

Not even someone who perpetrates one repeated rape herself (when you have sex with someone who has no choice, that's rape) and supervises countless others.

And lots and lots of other stuff.

As Lucretia said herself, she's not a monster. "I'm much, much worse." If you ask me, she's the villain of the whole fandom.

But she still doesn't deserve to be raped.

And, Dude, I have got to get access to Limewire again and download the new series!

I'm not sure I agree she's the villain, not so much this season anyway. The current season is portraying her as doing what she has to do, given that she's lost her position in life when her husband died, and can't actually 'command' anything anymore.

But I'm feeling sympathy for the first time towards her, and I wonder if that wasn't the point of the writers having Ashur rape her this season? If so....gross.

I always did have some sympathy for the character. Her utter distaste for much of what happened in GotA was one of the most delightful things about the film. This doesn't make her any less a rapist and a murderer, though, or any less villainous. As the great sage Stan Lee once said, the hallmark of a great villain is comprehensible motivation.

And I agree that the rape was for effect, and that that is a despicable thing for fiction to do. However, these writers have been known to change my mind.

Because rape culture means that we're always looking for a way to blame the victim, and as soon as you say somebody "deserved" to be raped, everything that has been gained for actual rape victims in terms of legislature and justice is gone. There aren't shades of rape; rape is never done in self-defense, rape is never invited, rape is never anything but a crime. To say otherwise in our culture is incredibly dangerous, damaging, and frankly disgusting.

And as a rape survivor myself, I personally would prefer death to being raped again. Because the idea that I can or will die is fine; the idea that the person inflicting something traumatizing on me is getting off on it in a personal way is a hundred times worse.

That's...irrelevant in this discussion? We're talking about people not deserving rape. Murder can be done in self-defense/by accident, and so it's its own thing entirely.
