OP HERE.

Yep, it's me.

Okay, I'll address a few things. First, by "fully respect", I meant just that. It's just a smalll squick, mostly, and not a huge thing that comsumes me with "I can't talk to you, subhuman thing!!" "Much of a fan" goes beyond not caring that a movie is Disney and just enjoying it. But when someone gushes expectantly over every bit of news of an upcoming movie, or randomly posts something on a social network multiple times weekly relating to these movies in a super-cheery, overly-positive way, I do get a bit judgy. I also said "mild feeling of disgust and anger". I suppose I should translate that to "MAYBE roll my eyes, and/or quietly think 'ugh' and move on," because that's about the extent of it. By "games" I meant pan-fandom RP, the kind you'll find on LJ or DW, where "refusing to RP" means I just avoid those characters, no great effort on my part. I just don't care to interact with them.

The main reason I posted this secret is, yes, it's a little irrational. It concernes me a little that I even feel this way. (I'm a fan of much animation, from any part of the world, and am well beyond the age that it is easily socially accepted.) For some reason, Disney... annoys me. I've not watched a Disney or Pixar animated movie since I was 10 that didn't make me want to, well, stop watching the movie. And I admit that I haven't seen them all. But i've seen enough for me, personally. Some of it is that while I don't believe that animation is just for children - far from it - Disney markets these movies as such, but includes content that I'd consider inapproriate for children. A lot of it is Disney taking classic literature and warping it into something... not the same. And though it's not Disney's fault (mostly), I resent the fact that so many people can't imagine those classics as anything other than the Disney version. Most of it is simply that I personally just don't think the movies are all that great. The art style of most of them, the plot and writing... no, they may not be BAD, but they simply don't appeal to me at all. Not my thing. (And yes, I'm overgeneralizing, and I realize that the movies differ greatly, and can admit maybe some are good, I just haven't seen one yet. Oh, and I generally don't like musicals, and many many of these movies are.) Again, irrational to mildly judge someone for likely something I don't, but that's the nature of the secret, and why it's a secret. I'm not proud of it, but it's TRUE. Anyway, I love animation myself, but rather than feeling like "but animated movies are just as good as other movies. They're not bad just because they're animated!", which I totally agree with, I more feel that, they're not GOOD just because they're animated. Some extreme fans seem to give animated movies with poor plots and writing much more leeway than non-animated counterparts. That's something that bothers me as well.

But yeah, tl;dr. Not a troll. It's a "secret" because it admittedly bothers me a little to feel this way. It's not a great thing to feel, and is a little irrational. I love cartoons. I've not seen a Disney or Pixar movie I could sit through. Extreme fans bother me a little tiny bit. The end. ;)

Thanks for listening to me babble. Hopefully that answers some questions. ;)

because it's irrational (it is), and being that it bothers you, it would probably be good for you to try to work it out. i mean, besides just being unfair to others (which, giving you the benefit of the doubt, probably isn't the crux of the issue since i doubt you go around even letting people know that you feel that way in most cases), isn't it pointlessly unpleasant for you? anger is remarkably unpleasant to deal with emotionally, and if there's really no point to it, you'd be much better off without it.

or you can just hang onto it, but as you have seen here, if you ever say this to anybody, they will undoubtedly take you to task for it.

Out of curiosity, if you're a relatively big fan of animation, what do watch that isn't Disney or Pixar? I can think of Dreamworks and Aardman, but Aardman's releases are few and far between. Is it just TV?

I think it's fair to be excited for a Disney/Pixar movie just because it's Disney/Pixar just like you'd be excited for a movie by a director you enjoy or because it's a [insert genre here] blockbuster. Animated Disney/Pixar movies (while not by the same director) do have many of the similarities that we normally attribute to directors - certain themes, aesthetics, etc. In the same way, the amount invested into a Disney/Pixar flick also puts it in the blockbuster category.

A lot of it is Disney taking classic literature and warping it into something... not the same. And though it's not Disney's fault (mostly), I resent the fact that so many people can't imagine those classics as anything other than the Disney version.

This argument always bothers me. Disney is not the cultural police or the divine source of all culture. If these people can't imagine the non-Disney version, blame the watcher. Disney did nothing but make a good movie. I don't understand why people are insisting that Disney be responsible for our culture. You'd never give that responsibility to another studio.

What kind of movies do you like? I'm sure that the Disney/Pixar fans can make recommendations for the ones you might find least objectionable.
