Well, fandom's definitely helped me with discussing things in a polite but non-wishy-washy fashion. Especially in class. And definitely helped me with remembering how to give disclaimers before stating my opinions to avoid confusion. So thanks to it, I'm a lot more comfortable with arguing without being afraid of coming off as a douchebag.
