It's not that their opinion are far-left (those actually tend to just be left-centrist), it's the attitude that's takes on an extremist stain.

i.e. recently there was a post about a few band members heckling some basketball player at a game with racist remarks, and someone was talking about the entire band being punished despite the fact only a few members were assholes. I'm pretty sure if I'd responded that would've trailed into a pretty big fight about spectator culpability.

I think I missed that post. I'm assuming the band was a school band? Since I'm unaware of the actual situation, I can't make a well-informed opinion. I imagine since racism is a clear moral wrong that members of the band should have called others out (maybe they did), but there are some people who may have been legitimately timid or perhaps frightened. It really depends on the situation. If some band members weren't aware it was happening, of course they shouldn't be punished.
