Peeeersonally, I think you're addressing a stereotypical anime artstyle and forgettingthere are THOUSANDS of different styles just like there are thousands in western cartoon. A lot of shounen series are varied and diverse, take for instance Blade of the Immortal or any handful of shounen series to date.
But that's neither here nor there. You can by all means be biased against anime. But whether you think its shallow or not, I don't think it matters because anime shouldn't be considered any less of an artform, since it's still an artform. I mean, I never ever want to hang up cartoons that look crude like Ren and Stimpy on my wall. But does that make it any less meaningful as art? No. It's still art. It's just not art I like.
