OP: thanks for the benefit of the doubt because now I realize I worded this secret a bit badly, but it's not that I don't think that anyone can ship a couple because they have chemistry or interesting personality dynamics. That's why I ship them, and I do think they're a great couple and that the actors are good-looking, if not conventionally super-hot. But I know shipping behavior, and I know what fuels the least common denominator that determines whether something is popular or not, and I don't think any couple from a sitcom with fairly low ratings can have the massive fanbase they have unless their shippers are drooling over them and consider them hot.

Sorry about the 'ye of little faith' bait, but while fandom has a lot of great people in it, the bulk of its numbers are made up of people who would not be shipping them if they didn't find the characters sexually attractive. So my reasoning is: this pairing is popular, ergo, a large portion of their fans are panting over their hotness, because there is absolutely no way all those fans are in it for reasons like chemistry, good writing, good characterization, acting, and emotional depth. Most fans are shallow idiots.
