Seriously... I want a playable Turian. With a storyline. .__. A lot.

Game where you're part of C-Sec.

C'mon, it's perfectly suited to their game style.

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Done in a cyberpunk film noir fashion.

Actually fuck C-Sec, I want something set on Omega.

[identity profile] kyuusei.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd LOVE something set during the First Contact War.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-01 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
ditto this in a heartbeat.

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
They're already hinting at having abandoned Dragon Age. And SWTOR is bleeding them dry, as well.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything anymore. I think the golden age is over.

"They're already hinting at having abandoned Dragon Age."

Do you have a link to where this was hinted? I haven't seen anything at all about it (though to be fair I've mostly been ignoring everything BW related since the ME3 ending burnt me so bad), and I'm curious! :O

basically they're abandoning DA2 which speaks ominously of DA3

And SWTOR is bleeding them dry, as well.

Do you have a source for that?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
With the way it ended, you couldn't possibly make sequels without some major retconning. A prequel, I'll give you, but a sequel is out of the question.

Regradless of what the fans think or influence, it's seemed pretty clear they wanted Mass Effect to end.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. They kept saying it was the end of Shepherd's story. That seemed pretty clear that any subsequent games would only appear within the universe and not be Mass Effect 4.

With as bad as the ending was, I don't see where they could take it unless it was more of a survival scenario after the game ends.

That said, a game set during First Contact would be awesome.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love a First Contact War game. Or movie. Honestly, one of the two would be great.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Not just Shepard's story, though. With the Mass Relays destroyed, I don't see how they'd manage another game, not without it being hugely different and basically another universe altogether.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's not true at all--they would only need to canonize one particular ending (probably the blue one) and go from there.

And I disagree. They've been quite clear they want to keep going with the ME universe.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, it's pretty true. Without the Mass Relays, which get destroyed in all the endings, it's near impossible to have a Mass Effect universe. They are what made successful cluster to cluster FTL possible. I would like to note, I am aware that FTL travel exists outside the Mass Relays. However, they are limited due to the Static build up and make traveling FTL to other clusters impossible.
Without that FTL travel, everyone is marooned in their own system or the system they were in during the blast.
That's if they hand-wave the blast not having the energy of a super-nova, in which case they just fried every system with a mass relay. Mass Effect does try to keep its science hard, especially dealing with its own universe. With those major issues about the ending, it's going to be a hard sell to continue from there.

Now to be a dick on your other point: The same people who said that are the same people who said there will also be "16 different possible endings." It's highly possible they could have been lying given their track record. Or they changed their minds. Or they didn't realize the implications that their ending gave them.

You're definitely not alone, anon, on any of the opinions you expressed. I know you can't judge an entire fanbase by the extremists, but these days it feels like the sensationalist extremists are the majority of the ME3 fanbase. It's very disheartening.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Not sacrificing. Kidnapping. We kidnap their children. It's for their sakes too, mommies and daddies who write these endings can't be good parents.

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'd have the same problems playing a prequel (or midquel?) as I'd have playing the current Mass Effect games again - it'd just feel so pointless when we know what's coming.
Although I really wish that anime they're making would be about the first contact war. I could hang with a game or OVA based around that without too much upset.

[identity profile] rattyrayvn.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
At least some of the outrage has been channelled into donating to charity?

And hey, who wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this protest:
http://kotaku.com/5896847/gamers-send-bioware-400-cupcakes

That said, I partially agree with OP - it's one thing for people to dislike the ending and be able to thoughtfully discuss its flaws, maybe even voice their dissatisfaction to BioWare. It's another to disregard how good ME3 was up to that point, flood the internet with one-star reviews based on the last five minutes, and put loads of people off buying what is still an amazing game.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to laugh and wonder if any of those people who do stuff like that have ever been a Joss Whedon fan. If they've just never experienced unexpected endings or if they have too many times where they've just snapped with ME3.

Considering the ending so thoroughly destroys the setting and all but salts the earth afterwards, I really don't think it's the fans who made it unlikely we'll ever see another ME game...

[identity profile] ariseishirou.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I know it's already be said, but really? How are we going to play an alien, unless that alien is one of the billions now stuck on earth with no way of getting home, slowly starting to death?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love something Dragon Age Origins-ish, where you get to pick your species at the start of the game and each one has a different opening leading into the main story.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny, I was thinking of submitting a secret almost identical to this.

I just hope that Bioware/EA doesn't cave in and make a DLC with an alternate ending that's like, "Just kidding, guys!". I already try to give EA as little money as possible (I would give them none, but they do publish some of the best games in their niches in the industry...) and this would add to the list. Bioware would essentially become the fandom's bitch (more than they are already). I'd just hate to see a decent developer sink down and give what SOME of the fans want.

And this whole business of demanding a new ending just because you don't like the ones you got IS entitled as fuck. They are being whiny fanboys/girls. Get the fuck over it. Everything has to end eventually and those endings are working as intended. It's probably better this way than beating a dead horse down the line in ME7. Bitch about how you don't like, that's fine, but don't demand Bioware change it for you. FFS.
