I feel heart-broken, in a good way. I just feel a little bittersweet about it.
Even though I ship everyone together (Hagu/Morita, Hagu/Shuuji, Hagu/Takemoto, Morita/Takemoto), I'm honestly just glad Hagu ended up with the one she chose for herself. Hagu never loved Takemoto like she loved Morita, and I guess that's why I'm glad he came last, so to speak. Even if it's a little heartbreaking.
Honestly, I shipped Hagu with Shuuji and Takemoto the most, so I was very happy that at least one of them came first.

Oh, but I loved that the series ended that way! It was so realistic and bittersweet! Besides, their lives were taking them in different directions and I think it was best that they both focused on their careers and put their own personal interests first instead of abandoning what they really wanted to do in favor of having a relationship.

Same. This was the point, I assume, that they represent the bittersweetness of love, but I got plenty of that out of Hagu/Morita and Mayama/Yamada.

I always liked to think that Takemoto was to Hagu and Morita what Shuji was to Rika and Harada... a connecting link, someone who loved them both and whose existence made it easier for them to connect. And just like for Shuji, I think that it wasn't all one sided, or rather, it was more complicated than it looked like at first glance. Because Morita always had certain feelings for Takemoto that were a sort of strange mix of friendship, rivalry, and longing... and Takemoto for his part was always jealous of/fascinated by/drawn to Morita as well.

Sure, Takemoto and Hagu didn't end up having a romantic connection, because his feelings went unrequited... but he was one of her only two friends in the world (Ayu was the other), and I think she will always treasure him and be close to him in a way she and Morita could never be, despite their romantic feelings for each other.

I never thought about it like this before, but IMO you hit it square on the head. I completely agree. (…but I still mourn for Takemoto!)
