The part that had me crying was the riot in District 11. I was getting choked up over Rue's death, and then Jennifer's acting sent me over the edge, and then the riot had me full-on crying.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, too. I thought the way they shot Rue's death, then Katniss flashing the hand sign at the camera and the way they cut to the riots was really well done.

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

[identity profile] theoriginal-ist.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the riot was pretty upsetting. I'm glad the film had at least that. (And Jen is seriously overly talented for these films, she pretty much made the movie for me.)

[identity profile] azelmaroark.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I was really not expecting to cry because I knew exactly what was coming, and then woah. If I'd been watching at home, would have paused the movie to go cry in a hole somewhere. It was that kind of crying.

[identity profile] ninety6tears.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Same here. The riot was when I totally lost it.

[identity profile] formula-410.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. That was completely unexpected for me, too, since I had no prior experience with the books and really only went to see the movie on a whim. But man, that riot scene really got to me. Mega tears.

edit: Also Katniss crying! That made me really sad. That kind of crying is the worst feeling in the world.

Same. I thought that it was all done really well in the movie. The glimmer of the impact it had outside the games made it that much more heart wrenching. More so then I think if they had put the token of bread in the movie. That works better for the books.

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? It wasn't too gory, but I thought it was just as upsetting in the film as it was in the book. I didn't cry when I read it, but I burst into tears when Katniss covered Rue with flowers. I haven't cried during a film since I saw the re-released version of Return of the Jedi when I was seven. So yeah, sorry, anon. We'll agree to disagree.

[identity profile] cure-light.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
This. It may not have been as gory or drawn out, but I felt like it had a different sort of impact. It had me bawling, at least.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-03-30 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I cried at the beginning of the movie, with all the stuff with Prim, to be honest. Relationships between siblings (with a younger sister) always get me, because of how protective I am about my own sister.

Though I thought Rue's death was really sad in the movie.

[identity profile] ninety6tears.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I cried at the reaping too, I was really a mess with this film. Poor little Prim trying to be so brave and tucking the back of her shirt in and Katniss' reaction and everything D':

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't cry, but I finally knew what a trigger felt like because I'm an oldest child (of three), and if I were Katniss, I would have offered myself up. Without even thinking. It was a terrifying realization.

[identity profile] knkfics.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I can't figure out why they changed it.... it makes Marvel look like kind of an idiot. Dude, throw the spear at the girl who can kill you, not the helpless one.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
He thought he tried to hit Katniss but she got out of the way, and Rue was right behind her?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*I thought

what.

[identity profile] streetcake.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Crap, I cried the moment the Reaping started and pretty much didn't stop through the rest of the movie. I nearly made my mom cry when I leaned over and reminded her that Rue's family had been watching the whole thing. Then the hand sign, and the riot, and Katniss having an emotional breakdown afterwards, oh man I nearly openly sobbed. Luckily some old folk next to us were crying to so I didn't feel silly.

Also, I liked that they showed her last moment from Rue's pov.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
This is why I haven't seen the movie yet. I can't make it through the trailer without bawling.

[identity profile] theoriginal-ist.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Rue's pov too. It was different and nice.
ext_19953: (cause it sounds like TOUGH)

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
hah, I cried anyway.

[identity profile] endis-ni.livejournal.com 2012-03-31 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
It was bad enough- I haven't cried actual tears at a movie in years. No really. I suspect the last time I did so, there were Care Bears involved.

Especially since the little girl playing Rue was as cute as kittens, and was so good an actor that even with my rational brain going "don't do it! You know she'll be the Little Nell of the story!" I couldn't help but care.
