I felt it did. Yeah, Peeta just shows up with the Careers and the viewer is sort of "wtf?" (but then again, so is Katniss), but after the whole Tracker Jacker scene happened and the Careers run to the lake to escape, Peeta does return to tell Katniss to run. It's very similar to what happened in the book where after Katniss escapes them, she stops to think, "Did Peeta just save me?" and starts to question his whether she was wrong about him betraying her. They just don't give us a scene of her hashing that out.

Not to mention there was a definite instance where the Careers were yelling up at Katniss after trapping her up the tree-- taunting her and letting her know she's all but dead--and the camera deliberately cuts to Peeta standing behind them all, silently starting up at Katniss.
