Some people don't see buddhism as a religion.

I think it's a little presumptuous to assume that someone who has found a religion/spiritual philosophy that fits with their perspective to be someone who "needs a religion." Some people simply desire to be a part of a religious community or to put a name on the beliefs they have formed independent of being a part of the religion they choose to adopt--it's not always that they need it. I'm not religious myself, but this kind of "religious people NEED religion" attitude is really condescending.

Depending on what type of Buddhism, it wouldn't be considered a religion. A lot of buddhist consider themselves atheistic.
