+1 I always imagined her as being middle-aged, somewhere in her late 40s or very early 50s (with the headcanon that she'd been the hot young professor everyone had a crush on back when the MWPP generation started school), and thus only about 15 years older than Snape. Who I shipped her with hard from about book 2 onward.

It was really jarring to me when the movie came out and she was played by Maggie Smith. My fanwank for the "actually, she's seventy" is that Dumbledore, who's supposed to be 150, was still young-looking back when Tom Riddle was a student (when Albus would have been about the same age Minerva is when Harry's a student), so obviously wizards age differently than normal humans.
