I don't like Eric as a person, I like him as a character. I also like Light Yagami and a whole host of other characters I'd run away from if I saw them IRL but am attracted to within the confines of fiction.

As for people who say they want Eric inside them.... I find him (and Alex) sexually attractive, but I wouldn't actually, actually have sex with Eric if I was in the True Blood-verse because I sort of value my life, and no matter how hot the prospect, the knowledge that I could very easily die would still keep me from doing it. That doesn't stop me from sometimes joking about Eric-smexxing with fandom friends.

I sort of know what you mean, though, OP, I've been all, "Why would fangirls like him? He's so evil!" about other characters before, but not with Eric. The answer is pretty much always going to be that they just think that particular character is hot (despite of or something because of their moral depravity), and there's nothing wrong about it so long as they don't flock to abusive and morally corrupt people IRL. Snape had lots of fangirls back when most of the fandom still thought he was evil to some degree, right? He's not my cuppa, and Eric isn't your cuppa, and I guess that's really all there is to it.
