... And I have a family similar to hers.

I would maybe recommend it? IDK. I love my mom a lot. BUT DEAR LORD SHE IS SMOTHERING SOMETIMES. And I th ink Francine and Martha's relationship is the same way. Like the two of them obviously love each other but Francine can be over bearing, much like my own mom. And my extended family tends to get into the kinds of fights that Martha's family seems to get into (LOL Case in point, my mom JUST asked me to call my aunt for her to finalize plans for Easter lunch because "last time we talked she was really snippy with me". So I 100% sympathize with Martha feeling like a go-between for her parents). And I think my sister and I have a similar relationship to Tish and Martha where we argue sometimes, but generally we're pretty close and care about each other a lot.

OR MAYBE I'M JUST PROJECTING MY OWN LIFE ONTO MARTHA.

My parents split when i was around 11 and since then they basically stopped being parents. My dad abandoned us for a whole new family and my mother worked three jobs leaving me to rise my sister. it was hard, and every time I see Martha's family I get a little chocked up. Her parents OBVIOUSLY(before Master) HATED each other, but put up with each other for their benefit of their kids. I want that sooo bad. Just so I can finally say that I have a mom and a dad, not just those-two-people-who-gave-me-life-then-forgot-about-me :/

Not sure I believe you've seen almost all of the original who. Most of the original Who is blessedly hard to find and ungodly expensive and goodly chunk is gone forever.

But nothing wrong with Martha. I liked her as well.

It's unlikely but not impossible- my father has most available episodes on video tape, so naturally I saw a good chunk myself growing up. Anon could have a similar story.

But I agree that Martha is one wonderful lady. What she did in the year that never was is as brilliant as it is understated.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation showed most of the original Who at a rate of an episode a day over several years around eight years ago. So I guess people who watched that consistently have seen most of the original Who.

Very true, although I assumed the OP meant "almost all of original Who that is still extant."

I have no idea what is currently available on DVD, but an awful lot was released on VHS, including incomplete episodes with the missing bits filled in with audio and still photos to bridge the gaps in the story. I was able to watch a lot of old episodes during my college years because one of the local video rental places had a really good Doctor Who selection (and this was in the U.S.) Between that place, PBS, and various libraries, I've probably seen "almost all" of what still exists, too (excluding certain Hartnell episodes that literally put me to sleep!)

I love Martha, she's my second favorite companion, Sarah Jane is first but Martha is still amazing!

I sorta've have a family like Martha's, I don't know my family isn't smothering but they're somewhat interested in what I do. I hope things work out for you OP.

Martha's my favorite companion too. She put up with so much crap and was able to walk away on her own terms with her head held high. Amazing woman.

Even though I'm a Rose Tyler fangirl, I LOVE Martha Jones. No shame in loving her; she was a GREAT companion.

I personally can't say I wish I had her family, but yeah, I think when you boil it down they did love her.
