It was obvious since like... PS/SS, imo.

But people ship what they ship, I guess. I wanted Harry/Luna and was kinda pissed when it didn't happen, even though I knew it never would.

My sister's still pissed about that, haha, and she only saw Luna in the MOVIES. I told her to read the books 'cause Luna's around more and definitely cooler in the books, but no such luck...yet. Seems that now the books are on the Kindle though, so...bwahahah.

Yeah, I could tell from the first time I read the book when I was 11 that that's where it was going, but hey...different interpretations always happen.

Also +1 for Harry/Luna.

Though my #1 ship is Harry/Ron/Hermione tbh.

This. Which is why I don't get all the anger. I mean, I don't ship Ron/Hermione. But I saw it coming a mile away. Why the hell does "canon" have to be a requirement for fun, ffs?

yes harry/luna! i really thought it was going to happen. that, or harry was gay and would end up getting a beard. yeah, i still think that.

This, exactly. I never liked R/Hr, but the writing was on the wall.

OTOH, after spending the first four books in Harry's head, I still held out hopes that H/G wasn't going to be a reality, that we hadn't yet 'met' a character who he reacted to the way I wanted to see him feel towards a love interest.

Then came OotP, and Luna. The central problem of Harry's character was always how no one believed him - regarding magical accidents in his childhood, being Slytherin's heir, putting his name in the goblet, etc. This happens at least once a book.

And then we're introduced to a character who believes in everything. In the first scene with the Thestrals, it's the same old story - Harry sees them, no one believes him. But Luna does. (And would have, no doubt, even if she didn't see them herself.)

At the end of the book, she's the only one who makes him feel at least a bit better after Sirius. And at the end of DH, she's the only one who understands he needs to get away from the crowd and be with his friends, and creates a diversion so he can do so.

But ultimately, he's never attracted to her. And as Harry shows us, physical attraction is a big draw for him. Can't force attraction.

Thank you for explaining the appeal of Harry/Luna, anon! It's something I never quite understood. I never got into Harry/Luna because I figured his LI had to be a character that had been there since the beginning, for ~literary completeness~ or whatever. (I do like H/G, although I do have slight issues with the development of their relationship in HBP.)

IA that H/L have a special relationship, it just never turned into anything more. Same thing with H/Hr.

for about a year after DH came out, I could have sworn that they ended up together in the epilogue. It was only until I re-read it that I realized they didn't. I guess it had been wishful thinking

YANA, anon. In my headcanon, they totally had a hot and heavy fling before Luna left him to go off chasing Crumple Horned Snorkacks. Each of them considers the other "the one that got away." :D
