JKR sorta admits what?

And I hated them in the movie...well, I hated the movie version of both Hermione and Ron, while Hermione and Ron were basically my favorite book!characters and my otp, so just curious why it made you want to throw books?

I think she said that she could have written the relationship better, not that it shouldn't have happened.

Ugh yes movie!Hermione and Ron were the WORST. Kloves' not-so-secret Harmonian Agenda didn't help matters of course lol.

I find that argument kind of not very believable. Considering that he added in that random hug scene in COS, I don't think Kloves was a Harry/Hermione shipper. Emma and Rupert just didn't have chemistry. It wasn't like any of the scenes written between Hermione and Harry were out of character. They were all friendship scenes, it just ended up seeming kind of shippy because Dan and Emma had chemistry.

I don't know if shipper is the right term, but Kloves expected H/Hr to be endgame. JKR said in an interview:

"Steve Kloves who has been the script writer [on the Potter films], who is enormously insightful on the series and a very good friend, after he read book seven he said to me, 'You, know, I thought something was going to happen between Harry and Hermione, and I didn't know whether I wanted it or not.'"

Also, in this interview he says his fave scene in DH Part I was the dance scene: http://collider.com/steve-kloves-interview-harry-potter-deathly-hallows-amazing-spider-man/101593/

Who knows? Maybe it stemmed from Hermione being his favourite character and then giving her a disproportionate number of attention. He did have an unfortunate tendency to give Ron's best lines to Hermione.

Re: chemistry... yeah, it isn't something you can plan for when you cast your actors at age 10 lol.

Dan and Emma had zero romantic chemistry imho and Emma and Rupert had a lot more.

Ymmv.

I've never understand people's penchant for declaring chemistry does/does not exist as a certifiable fact instead of the subjective opinion it really is.

Pretty much after she found her "Harry", she admits that Ron was based a little too much off of her ex. There's and interview floating around somewhere that I read years ago. I think she even thought about killing him at one point, but decided against it.

I loved the movie version. Ron was no where near the ass that he was in the books and he wasn't nearly as bad at trying to make fun or hurt Hermione's feelings like he did at times in the books.

I know that makes a nuanced character, but it only ever made me want to punch him in that smart mouth of his and get Hermione as far away from him.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Lol nice job totally misconstruing her statements.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-06 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Because what with Hermione repeatedly physically attacking him and such, it made me want to get HIM away from her sometimes. At least he never physically assaulted her. Besides, he and Hermione were pretty equally-matched as far as throwing insults back and forth were concerned. In fact, Hermione was probably snarkier and more aggressive than he was.

This entire comment smells of "poor fragile little women should be treated like babies" misogyny.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. The first thing you think of is misogyny.

Lol no.

Hermione's my favorite character and she can hold her hold her own. I just saw Ron as a horrible influence on her.

But whatever, think what you want to think, asshat nonny.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-06 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Not the Anon from before, but "asshat nonny"? Way to put your position down. ):

(Anonymous) 2012-04-06 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
On her official site, JKR says Ron was based off an old non-romantic pal of hers who always meant liberation and good times to her mind because he would pick her up in his old Ford Anglia and they'd go joyriding.

Hope you don't take offense if I take that story over some "interview floating around," kay?

... I thought it was Lockhart who was based off an ex?

(Anonymous) 2012-04-06 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Lockhart was based off someone she knew, who she didn't want to clarify because she didn't want him to find out.

Me I always thought Tom Riddle Sr. was based off her ex -- not necessarily in personality, just in theory. Dump your pregnant wife? Fine. Your unborn son will grow up to be Hitler and kill you and hundreds more people. Howzabout that on your conscience? :D

Ah, thanks for the clarification!

I like your headcanon about Tom Riddle Sr. :D
