...makes me want to break things. Especially because those two are, legitimately, two of my favourite (although I have more) characters in the series.

[identity profile] margerydaw-s2.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
The women are the best thing about this series. And they're so diverse! HNGH, I love them. It breaks my heart to see them dissed the way they are.

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. I used to go to Westeros.org for my Asoiaf fix before, and it just...yeah, made me see red. I'm glad I found my little niche in fandom that really gets the women, and actually understand the potential of the female characters. These days I rarely venture outside of that much, because ugh, the greater part of the fandom is just, meh, DO NOT WANT.

LMAO @ your icon xD

[identity profile] margerydaw-s2.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm starting Book Three and I can't get enough of the women. And pretty much the entire Tyrell family.

appropriate for this season, mesays

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Unf, I love love LOVE Tyrells <3 One of my two favourite Houses tbh.

Hope you enjoy reading them! (Well, not enjoy, I suppose, but that you are entertained.)

[identity profile] margerydaw-s2.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
IKR. They're so amazing. What's your other favorite house?

I am looooooooooooving this. As it's usual the case with me, my faves drop like flies, but as I see it, in GoT everyone's favorites drop like flies anyway.

Is your icon sharable?

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, it was made by [livejournal.com profile] roguebelle! She posted a hilarious bunch of these over at [livejournal.com profile] valyrian_forged based on the Evil Overlord/Empress rules, as befitting each House. It's a locked community, but I wanted to let you have the full credit info, just in case :)

My other favourite is the Martells. I like them, mostly for the same reasons I like Tyrells (with some major differences), but I won't go into detail, because that might maybe possibly spoil book 4 for you, and the latter part of book 3! :D

[identity profile] margerydaw-s2.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be taking them both with proper credit, of course!

I don't even know the Martells and already kinda love them because how cool is their motto.

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even know the Martells and already kinda love them because how cool is their motto.

Right?! Best motto ever. I won't say they're perfect, but I adore them to bits and pieces!

[identity profile] margerydaw-s2.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
No one is really perfect, really. I do so love the Baratheon motto, too. And it sort of fits me very darn well. I'm full of fury.

My friend says if I were to write a sorting app I'd probably be put in House Stark, though.

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)

Aren't we all XD

My friend says if I were to write a sorting app I'd probably be put in House Stark, though.

Well, we don't sort Baratheons anyways, at [livejournal.com profile] westerosorting, and Stark is hardly a bad House to be sorted into! Then again, you might be surprised at your results, many people are! 8)

[identity profile] margerydaw-s2.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, fury is a good fuel sometimes. Keeps people going when they have little energy, at least for me.

I adore house Stark. I sometimes think it's too good for me, though! Will certainly write an app, when I have the time =)

[identity profile] greeneyed.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
YES! I only watched the TV series, but I was honestly surprised by how complex and out of the good-evil spectrum were women in a fantasy setting. I just have had a bad relationship with fantasy...

Never seen the fandom, but the above and below comments break my heart.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
People just don't get Catelyn's story, so they don't appreciate it, but ilh. I think she's a really compelling character if people will just give her a chance and read her chapters thoughtfully.

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I agree with that, I can certainly understand that people who don't understand the purpose of Catelyn's character, will dislike her.

But, at the same time, I am also of the belief that half of it is just wilful ignorance. As in, they simply refuseto understand. But idk, maybe that's just me, and my love for Cat blinding things. Idk.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think that people are just really stupid about her. Like she's a mother, so they try to make her fit into either the benevolent mother or evil stepmother trope and she's not either of those things. She doesn't fit neatly into any category.

And I think that there is a lot of Not Getting It going on when it comes to the larger themes of the story too. Catelyn is an anti-war narrative. (Fun fact! GRRM was a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War.) She tries to get Robb to sue for peace at the end of AGOT. Also in AGOT when Edmure is like, "I will get vengeance and kill the Lannisters for what they did to Ned!" Cat is just like, "and that is going to bring Ned back.... how???" And then she sees Renly's camp and thinks about how those men know nothing about war. Cat knows the human cost of war. She's seen a war before and it's awful. And like... NO ONE GETS THAT ABOUT HER STORY. Cat doesn't want war. She just wants her family safe. She sees the folly of war. I DON'T think we're supposed to look at the war and think of how glorious it all is and how righteous Robb's cause is. We're supposed to see the cost and tragedy of it all.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hum, I like Cersei as a character and I had lots of problems with one of her scenes in ADWD but I can totally understand why fans would hate her, since she's, you know, an awful human being.

Sansa, on the other hand, is one of my favourites too. She made a lot of mistakes, true, but she's a good person and she's learning the game.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
omg, sorry, I thought you were talking about Cersei!

I love Cat, too. Again, she's made mistakes, but she's also pretty awesome.

[identity profile] sephystabbity.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I like Cersei too! Well, her character, anyhow. She's just so interesting to read about, and I find her PoVs fascinating.

Yup, all the Westeros women (Cat, Cersei, etc) have all made their mistakes, but I still can't help loving them, and still being a fan.

-ADWD SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS-

I had lots of problems with one of her scenes in ADWD

You and me both. The only thing I liked of that part of the story was "and hair grows back." She did not deserve that, dammit, whatever she might have done, and however terrible a person she might be.

[identity profile] fauxkaren.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think GRRM intended it to be torture porny. I think he was trying to show how fucked up the patriarchal establishment was.

But then the dudbros were all like "FUCK YEAH! GETTING WHAT SHE DESERVES!" And I'm like, "NOPE."

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
So agreed. And you have male characters like Robert and Jaime and Joffrey who have done things so much worse. And yet Joffrey is hated but not as much as the women, and he's only hated for killing the male fandom darling and not for his treatment of women. And Robert is ignored by the fandom. And Jaime is the fandom darling. All the female characters, even Dany and Arya, have hatedoms louder than those for any of the male characters.

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2012-04-06 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
he's only hated for killing the male fandom darling and not for his treatment of women

Oh, c'mon.

I'm not deep in this fandom, but in my little corner all my f-list hates Joffrey to death for everything, especially the way he treats Sansa. They can't talk abot him without adding "coff coff" or a gif of someone slapping him.
