...she wanted Snape/Lily to happen because it would make Snape happy? Very telling. Ntm the whole "leading him on" nonsense...

Also, how is wanting to be with someone who doesn't cruelly insult you to your face make you "shallow"? (Yes, I know he called her a mudblood without thinking, but then again... he said it without thinking.)

Some people....

And he called every other muggleborn "mudblood", too. So even if it just "slipped out" in an angry moment, she had every reason to stop hanging out with him. As she put it, why should she be an exception?

Plus, I mean, come on, if you aren't romantically interested in somebody, then you just aren't, even if they're your best friend and in love with you.

Exactly. A woman doesn't owe a man anything just because he's a Nice Guy. Not that Snape could ever be called "nice" lol!

TBF I believe JKR did say that Snape/Lily could have been a possibility, which implies some mutual attraction. However, his life choices pretty much shot all of that to hell.

Holy shit, I know, I'm so tired of men who think that women owe them something because they're nice, or were there for them emotionally That One Time, or because they bought them something or did something for them. Guy at a mall tried to buy me a necklace one time and after I said no, he asked for my phone number. When I refused, he tried to convince me that I owed him because, after all, he DID try to buy me a necklace. Because apparently offering to buy somebody a $6 necklace means that now I HAVE to sleep with you.

I also see a lot of guys (particularly online) bitching about being "friend zoned", and basically saying that the entire female gender is one giant bitch because of how often "friend zoning" seems to happen to them. After speaking to some of them, I learned that a lot of them seemed to believe that because they had been there to listen to their female friend/love interest complain about her boyfriend, or her parents, or her life, or whatever, that somehow she should have magically guessed that he was in love with them, and not only reciprocated his feelings, but took the initiative to break up with her current boyfriend (if she had one) and ask him out.

Fact: If you have ever had a male friend who's been emotionally supportive towards you in any way, then you OWE it to him to date him and be in love with him. All girls who DON'T do this are uppity, self-centered bitches.

Ugh that's awful! I haaate the "Nice Guy" myth being perpetuated by the entertainment industry. Providing emotional support DOES NOT ENTITLE YOU TO SEX ffs. This reminds me of that fantastic take-down of the Nice Guy rant which had been posted on Craigslist, linked here:

You've probably read it, although I find a re-read restores my faith in humanity. :-)
