I've done something similar to a fic I adore. The writer is very talented but sometimes their way of wording things is awkward and they have a few grammar mistakes. It makes me feel a bit bad, because the fic is amongst the best in my fandom, but I figure as long as the author never finds out, it's fine! You shouldn't feel this bad, OP, you haven't done anything wrong!
