I feel like I could make comparisons to Africans who moved to England, got an education there, and fought for African and slave rights, but I'm not sure if it would be appropriate.

But geez, she's risking her life for the sake of Japanese liberation, it's not like she's fetishizing the culture or anything. The others said everything else much better than I could.

The comparison would be more a mixed race kid who moved to england, spent (? were they ever clear on when Kallen stopped being raised in 'Japan'?) most of their formative years there, got treated by everyone as being white, but claiming to be black.

They can do good and noble things, and indeed have, but that doesn't change the issue over claiming identity I guess.
