Appearances are everything people! If he was ugly and had the same personality, this would be a better movie.

Not my point at all, but nice try.

The Once-ler was greed personified. Using resources once, and causing harm to the environment. Not only that, but the story itself didn't bastardize companies completely. Like the conversation between the Once-ler and the Lorax in the original story, basically boiled down to- "Where would my workers go?" "I see your point, but I do not know"

Putting in a "OMGEVILCOMPANYHEADHESEVILBECAUSEYAKNOWEVIL" and making the Once-Ler cute and cooky, and bros with the Lorax basically takes away from the whole point of the original story. (Don't get me started on the car commercials they did...)

I thought it actually helped to make the Once-ler a basically good person who let himself be misled. He was greed personified in the original, but some people here pointed out he was faceless for another reason- he could be anybody, even you. I didn't get that while reading the book. Making him kind of lovable felt like... more people would see themselves in this Once-ler than in the original, who didn't have any redeeming characteristics. And the pressure to succeed can be just as much of a motivator for someone to do terrible things as plain ol' regular greed, if not more.

I agree with basically everything being said here about O'Hare, though.
