I wonder... if I was to say that I found male characters more interesting to read about than female character would I be called misogynistic? Or told I had internalized gender issues?

One anon would probably say "you're misogynist." Then you'd have like ten other people telling off that anon.

There's really no reason to say you prefer male characters though (if you do). Fandom revolves around male characters. If you ever have difficulty finding fic or art or whatever, it won't be because the character you're looking for is male. You will almost never have your favorite character ignored because of his gender, and you will almost never have to wade through pages and pages of female-centered fanfic just to find one that focuses on a guy.

I don't care what you like to do, I'm not judging people who prefer reading about men or whatever, but when people who prefer reading about women bring that up and complain, it's because they're in the minority and that's a frustrating experience.

No, I do get it. Which is why I'm eternally grateful that I'm a slash fan (and the fandoms I get into tend to be slash-heavy). And I really can understand why most would be frustrated. I would, as well. i'm currently experiencing something similar. Finally got into a het pairing and not only is the ship a minority in the fandom, but the female character-- who's so darn awesome that her unpopularity in fic is unfathomable-- has very little fic about her, period.

Can't really imagine how I'd feel if I had to experience it all the time.

NGL-- the double standard is still irritating.
