But nobody's claiming that nobody can actually love these movies. (Especially if there's a nostalgia factor involved) They're talking about whether in a few more years they'll be widely considered great movies like, say, The Godfather. Or Star Wars.

Considered great by whom? There are a lot of people NOW who consider them great movies. But we don't count -- do we?

Yes, you count. You can consider them classics for you personally. But when you use the phrase "considered classics" it implies you mean the thing that that phrase means. It's a fuzzy distinction but it's still a distinction. It doesn't mean "some people" or even "a lot of people" (whatever that means to you) consider them great movies. By that standard the word would apply to more movies than it doesn't apply to.

The Phantom Menace Takes Worldwide All-Time 10th Position (http://www.jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=6736)

That's what I mean by a lot of people. That's what I mean by classics. Of that billion, $20 came from my pocket, but the rest? The criteria for what is/isn't a classic depend on who you ask, but I'd say the numbers speak pretty loud here.

Box office doesn't mean classics. I also know for a fact that a great deal of that came from Star Wars fans like myself who went to see it right as it came out because they LOVED the original trilogy and just were disappointed. I gave money to see all the prequels, but that doesn't mean I liked them.

Yes, so you're defining classic to mean movies that anybody likes or that made a lot of money. If you're using the definition of classic that most people use (still a soft definition, but not that soft) it's not. Plenty of classics didn't make that much money.
