It would be really cool if that was intentional, and I can't unsee it now.

I don't think it's that you're reaching as much as it is that people generally care much more about Sirius than Kreacher, and don't really think in depth about the elves.

I'm not sure the author thought that deeply about it. Harry helps an elf break free from slavery in book 2. Harry enjoys having a devoted slave by book 7. (But he doesn't like him to self-harm so it's okay.)

I always thought the Kreacher subplot in book 7 was more about Harry actually seeing him as a person, and getting Kreacher to help by recognizing Kreacher's own wants enough to find common ground. Before that, Kreacher was always just described as this hateful little thing, and even seeing that hateful or not, he was still horribly exploited, and he had reasons for feeling and acting the way he did, and that just the Trio seeing him as a person and not a thing changed how he treated them so much... like, I think that was a huge difference and a really great moment of clarity. On the level of elves in general, keeping him around to do chores for them was awful, but on a personal level... it felt like that's where he chose to be, and refusing to let him stick around and help how he could wouldn't have been that much more respectful?

But you have a good point too. I'm a little conflicted.

Did she ever tell us what happened to Kreacher after?
