There's a theory that's been floating around for years that Watson is secretly a woman and married to Sherlock in the original books.

Did I miss something? Lol
Just the idea gives me the giggles. How or WHERE in the original text did people get Watson being secretly a woman? I mean.. didn't he marry a WOMAN. She would have noticed that shit.

This is not a recent idea.

I don't fucking know.

Here it is, in all its ridiculous glory. (http://www.hwslash.net/stout.html) This isn't even a new thing, it's from the 1940s.

He also thought Watson was Irene.

WOw. I had heard the theory the other way around: Sherlock is the woman in disguise and married to Watson... so cool to know that even genderbent fanfics are older than internet.

Wow, yours is even better.

Wonder if there's one where they're BOTH women in disguise?

Now that would've cool.

I don't remember a lot about the female!Sherlock theory, except that Watson really didn't know until after REichenbach and that it had something to do with the perception of women back then, and how DOyle was being progressive with female!Sherlock and that it was the reason why he never paid any attention to women in text.

Ah.

It sounds like a lot of tinhatting to me, but I guess it's still a kind of cool interpretation.

I mean.. didn't he marry a WOMAN. She would have noticed that shit.

If Billy Tipton managed to fool several long-term female lovers, in real life, I don't see why a fictional Watson couldn't.

(Having not yet read the text, I couldn't guess how/where people got the idea.)
