Harry Potter is another series I got into way too late, due to my parents not letting me read the books when I was a kid.
I think I spy a trend here. I'm late to everything.I was deep in the Harry Potter fandom a few months ago. Well, I guess I should say I was lurking deep. I didn't find the fandom itself, but I found tons of fic, and I ended up reading several novel-lengths worth of that. I shipalmostanything and everything in Harry Potter, but Tonks/Remus is probably my favorite canon pairing.I'm not a huge Shadow Dragon fan, but it is the game that got me interested in the series. I like FE7 & 8 (been on a 7 kick recently, trying to get all the support conversations), but my favorite will always be Path of Radiance... and Radiant Dawn by extension, though the gameplay itself kind of annoys me in places. I haven't played the Japanese FE games yet, but I just found a patch for 6, so I'm hoping to play that soon.
Friending you now! I'm not super active in fandom because I don't write fic and I rarely draw, but it would be nice to have other people to discuss the series with, especially with FE 13 coming out soon. I think I only have one, maybe two, FE fans on my f-list. The rest of my friends don't really understand my Fire Emblem obsession. XD

I'm late to the HP fandom of course, always am late to the fun places, and I haven't really found much of the fandom. Then again the corner I mostly hang out is in TonksRemus-land and the fandom sorta...died a bit, as in the big communities (Metamorficmoon comes to mind) seem to have closed down or died. And the RTChallenge comm as well.
There are some really good fics in there, which is nice. If you have any Remus/Tonks recs I'd love to see them. I've read a few I really liked and found some great authors but there's a good chance I missed a lot of stuff.
Anyway, FE7 is my old favorite because I played it the day it was released (lmao), but I was late to FE9/10 because i owned them but refused to play them because gahfurriesinmyfireemblem, but I realize how awesome the plot to those games actually is now, and I regret failing at life initially.
That said, I don't have the time to write that I used to have, and I've mostly been writing HP fic, but I have a b-day collection to write for a friend (her b-day was april 2nd, I owe her FE7 fic!) soo I'll be back. I'm known in the fandom for my FE7 love despite my FE9/10 layout. :D

I have a question about the FE writing challenge community you linked to. Can I join even if I don't plan to write? For example, if I just want to read and vote? I read the comm rules but didn't see anything about that.
No Remus/Tonks recs, unfortunately. D: I tend to gravitate towards non-canon pairings when I'm looking for HP fic, because I like to read fics that explore relationships that either couldn't or didn't happen in canon. I haven't seen many Remus/Tonks fics even in passing, come to think of it.
I think I rented FE7 a long, long time ago, but I was young and easily annoyed and was instantly turned off by the permanent character deaths and the breakable weapons. Once I got a bit older and a bit less sucky at video games, I tried the series again and enjoyed it more.
Oh furries... My original fandom is Pokemon, and there's a lot of crossover between the furry and Pokemon fandoms. While the vast majority of the fans (furry and otherwise) are fine, there is an isolated subset that produce really, um... unique art and fic. There are certain Pokemon that I have learned not to Google image search because I need brain bleach for some of the results that come up. And it never fails that I forget every few years, and I will search for fanart and say "oh yes, now I remember why I banned myself from Google-ing Ivysaur."
But anyway, the laguz/beorc relations were one of the reasons I really loved FE 9/10. That and
because I am a shameless Ike/Soren fangirlbecause they gradually introduce you to all the nations. As much as I like 7, it took me several playthroughs to keep all the cities and nations and who-is-the-ruler-of-what straight.no subject
Anyway, re: FE Contest, you can definitely join to comment and vote. Deffffinitely. The people in the FE fandom are sad because they don't get many comments on their writing, so they will squee with delight to see a new person.
Oh hey if you're an IkeSoren fangirl I know the right people you should talk to! If you see Amielleon around, she's a huge IkeSoren fan as well. :D Writes great fic, too!
FE7 had a horrrible plot. Well the first part was cheesy but good, and the main plot was like, "derp". I love the game though, mostly because I looove the characters. The franchise reminds me a bit of Harvest Moon because you have Options, which is nice. So you can get characters together AND play strategy AND have a decent plot. But the BEST plot ever has to be the combination of 9 and 10. They were really great together, and like you said, introduced cities slowly so you wouldn't forget them as easily as, say, the other games. (A close friend still confuses Bulgar and Badon from FE7, so if longtime fans get confused you know something's up!)

Awesome! I am always looking for Ike/Soren fic.
Yeah, the FE7 characters are great! I always have a hard time deciding who to use on my team. The first time I played FE7, I had to restart the final chapter so many times because all my characters were under-leveled (due to me trying to train too many at once) and kept dying. On the 7th or 8th restart, I finally got to the dragon boss... who sniped and killed Lucius from 3 squares away. By that point I decided "screw it, I am not restarting again!" Poor Lucius. *When the credits said "Lucius: died in Light" it took me a minute to realize it was not some type of bad joke about him being a light mage.)
I thought the main plot of FE7 was okay, and even had some good dialogue in certain parts, but I generally skip it on my replays. Unlike FE9/10, where I read the plot every time.
I keep seeing people mention Harvest Moon. If I wanted to get into that series, which game would you recommend starting with?
Come to think of it, I should probably carry this conversation over to your journal, but I am lazy. Also, this thread is a few days old. I doubt anyone else is still checking it.

Harvest Moon is a good older game. TBH the only good versions were the N64 and the PS1 versions of the game, but I might be biased. My sister likes one of the Gamecube ones, too-- I could check the title of that one for you if you like.
Who are your favorite FE7 characters? Betcha can't guess who mine are. (/trollface.jpg) Obviously for FE9/10 your favorites are Ike and Soren! Or I'm assuming. Who else do you like? :D

Hmm... my favorites from FE7 are probably Hector, Serra (because she is hilarious) and Erk (because his name is fun and I love that he gets "stuck" with Serra). I like almost all of the characters though, and lately I've been looking for Karel and Lucius fic after reading their A support. The only characters I'm not too crazy about are Wallace, Lowen, and Marcus. I think I would like Marcus well enough if he was more useful. Too bad his stat growths suck. :/
My favorite from FE9/10 is definitely Soren, followed by Ike and Reyson. Other characters I like: Mia, Rhys (and Mia/Rhys; their support conversations made me ship it), Haar, Jill, Janaff, Naesala, Kurthnaga, Shinon, Pelleas, Micaiah, Sothe, Tormod, Zihark, Skrimir, Ranulf, Lethe... Well, everyone from FE9, basically
except for Illyana, because I wish she would talk about more than food in her support convos. I like most of the characters in FE10 too, but I feel like the lack of true support conversations kind of hurt them on the characterization front. It feels like Pelleas, Micaiah, and Skrimir were the only ones who really got fleshed out. Even the characters you start off with, like Nolan and Edward, didn't get much in terms of character development.
