I wonder if this applies to most of the Duo/Heero batshit fangirls, some of them act as if they spent 90% of the anime together when in reality they crossed paths like twice, and barely even talked.

...Are you serious? Wow. I've never seen the series, but considering how popular that pairing is...wow.

I can remember two occasions, once when Duo tried to steal Zero [Heero's Gundam], he shot Heero.

And then there was this episode, Duo had been captured and Heero was going to kill him so that the enemies didn't get info out of him, but if I remember correctly he ended up helping Duo scape.

The pilots Heero spent more time with were Quatre and Trowa, and far more emotional situations too, like when Quatre went berserk and Heero had to fight him. Or when Heero tried to blow himself up, and Trowa took him in and him and his sister nursed Heero back to health. And then Trowa accompanied Heero while he apologized to the family of Marshal Noventa [a man he killed by accident]. And Trowa was also with him when he went to Antarctica to fight Zechs.

PS: Sorry about the TL;DR.

They did briefly go to school together and they had a rivalry over the mission, but they were both had much more involved and interesting interaction with other characters than each other, and it was more clearly platonic than other things. But than again I ship het and HeeroxQuatre so what do I know.

That's fine. XD Already I'm thinking Heero/Trowa makes more sense, if you have to have slash.

I know I watched SEED and finally got Wing a few months ago and I'm failing at seeing how the fandom even has a basis for all the stuff I used to read from what I've been able to watch. I'm even having trouble getting into it. I prefer SEED honestly but I plan on watching Wing all the way through at least once.

Re: #19

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, with SEED, it's kind of that Kira and Athrun are really close childhood friends who stare at and angst about each other a lot. I don't ship it, but that didn't stop me from cracking up at those scenes whenever I watched it.

I don't ship it either honestly. My ships in that fandom are actually all het. The most I'd probably look for/read is Andy/Murrue.

::sighs:: They do meet up more than twice. No, I can't precisely cite the incidents -- if you give me two days, I can go rewatch and count. (2x5 fan here. ♥)

Doubt you care that much. I just... wanted to note. [/idiot]

Re: #19

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I always forget the numbers, let's see 2 is oviously Duo [that one is easy], but who's five?, Wu Fei?.

I think we're talking of one on one encounters here, because if we count the times when all the pilots were together then it counts for all pilots, not just 1x2.

Why wouldn't I care?, I love Gundam Wing, isn't it obvious?. :)

Re: #19

[identity profile] daluci.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
'Fei, yeah. (:

Yeah, one-on-one. I'm going to have to rewatch the series, especially since that's always a point people make against 1x2 'shippers. My best friend is one and I like quite a few of them ('shippers, although some of the 'fics are alright), so I... really want to understand this argument better than I do now.

XD! I was afraid of this turning into one of those "RAAAR" discussions, so I wanted to... give you an out? Iunno. ♥

Don't worry, I never got into any ship wars about GW [given my tendency to be contrary I'm quite proud of this].

I'm trying to remember other instances in which they were together, when Heero [I almost wrote Harry damn it HP has eaten my brain] was in the hospital right after he tried to recover Zero I can't remember if Duo was there.

There was also the time when they went to school together before they went on this mission when Heero tried to self-destruct.

And when Heero was going to kill him but helped him escape, they shared a cell.

They were together at the Peacemillion, but all the other pilots were there too, and I can't remember anything specificaly pertaining to 1x2 that might have happened there.

Re: #19

[identity profile] daluci.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to rewatch canon this weekend. (: At least then I'll be able to constructively contribute to these arguments. (The wikipedia articles are my canon gods, but they're not so good about pilot interaction)

EW has them spending a lot of time together (for a movie/single volume manga, of course) -- but I like that more than the series, in some ways, and that's probably outside of the argument.

Re: #19

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Um, I don't have exact episode numbers, but the first time they are alone is after Duo breaks Heero out of the hospital after he tried to destroy his Gundam, they spent a little time there, although Heero was being really antisocial, and ended up jacking parts from Deathscythe for is own Gundam.

They meet again, on another mission, I believe the fake out one where Heero kills the pacifists, and they collaborate there, not long term though. Spend a little time after where they go the same school, and sort of compete on a mission. Then is the big one where Heero self destructs and they part ways for awhile, only to be reunited later in space, when Heero bails Duo out after Duo gets caught, and provides him with the fake life he had been living.

And the next few times they meet together in the series, they are with one of the other pilots. In the cell at the lunar base, and than later Peacemillion. And that I believe is it for the series.

They hang around in EW, and sort of collaborate, although I don't think they live together, since they part ways at the end of it. And that is all the major canon interactions for Duo and Heero (Unless I missed any).

Thanks for the details!! I knew the very beginning, and the stealing parts from Deathscythe, and I knew the school bit happened (those icons are everywhere), although I wasn't certain where in canon it fell. (:

Endless Waltz I do know -- watched the movie version of it last week, and reread the manga version a few days ago. ♥

That's more than I could have come up with, and I appreciate the recap!

Re: #19

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I know I am leaving out a ton of details, and to the 1x2 shippers credit, some of that early interaction and stuff in EW could be taken that slightly slashy, , even though I personally don't really see it. But I sort of documented stuff like that to try and see where it came from. They can't say I haven't tried to see things from their point of view.

Re: #19

[identity profile] daluci.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
::nod:: I know another argument that's mentioned is the official art that seems to pair the two of them. (Like I said up there somewhere, my best friend is in the 1x2 camp, so I've heard this discussion before)

...I mostly like to try and see all sides of the issue because I'm dorky (and bored) like that. ♥

Re: #19

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, most of the Duo/Heero interaction is towards the beginning of the series, so for fans who only saw the first few episodes are not going to be as exposed to their interaction with others. Not that this applies to all 1x2 shippiers, but I think it does play a factor.

Re: #19

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
So they saw the first ten episodes, and nothing more, and then parted ways with the show and their happy 1x2 memories convinced that the show was all one big feast of 1x2 goodness?. Actually that would explain A LOT.

Re: #19

(Anonymous) 2007-07-14 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
why do people assume that each episode corresponds to exactly one day in the anime? while ONSCREEN there may not have been a hundred instances where they crossed paths but the argument can be made they saw more of each other when 'the cameras weren't rolling'.

btw, not a 1x2 fan but a fan who is getting tired of hearing the same arguments about 'screen time' when it comes to writing FANFICTION.

Re: #19

[identity profile] luisa-f.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
And then we can asume the same for the rest of the characters too, and since there were characters who spent more on-screen time with Heero than Duo, it can be asumed that they also spent a lot more off-screen time with Heero than Duo, and your argument is nule because all those characters spent more time with Heero on AND off screen.
