I know exactly how you feel.

Going to an anime convention kind of sealed it for me. It's bad, but I felt a hundred times more confident in my appearance when I was surrounded by unhygienic chicks who dressed like sloppy guys. Like, since I bothered to brush my hair, style it, put on makeup, wear women's clothing; I was the best looking chick in the place.

Go ahead and tell me how much I suck, when and how I'll be going to hell, etc.

NO you don't suck. LoL only in fandom is dressing up like a normail girl considered odd.
I've never been to a con but I know that if I did go I'd probably get dressed up in average girl clothing. Because well that's who I am!
I don't like playing dress up *shrugs* or being unhygienic.

Not at all. You're allowed to feel good about yourself if the people around you are being slobs.

But dressing in trendy clothing? That doesn't make you better than anyone else. That's just middle school logic.

I have never really seen general "sloppy dressing" limited to just anime/manga fans. I walk down the street, and I see tons upon tons of people dressed in sloppy clothes, looking like they haven't brushed their hair, put on makeup, etc. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT "ANIME STEREOTYPES", in fact, from my experience, these are usually the people who don't even know what anime is, or the people that call them "Japanese Raep Cartoons". Maybe they're a kid more into sports than barbies, or maybe they just simply didn't have time to fix themselves up, or maybe they're a stereotypical lesbian. YOU REALLY WANNA GO THERE? XD

They just dress that way. Dressing has nothing to do with who you are; if anything, these people probably dress this way just because they simply don't care what others think of them. It has nothing to do with anime, and that's what pissing me off.

so excuse me for wanting to spend my money on other things than makeup, or spend my time doing other things rather than standing in front of a mirror to apply said makeup and fix my hair so that I look pretty, fashionable and trendy. some of us don't think being the 'best looking chick in the place' as that worthy of a goal.

I shower daily, I wash my hair often and have a style that allows it to dry naturally and not need 'fixing'. my clothing is comfortable (especially for cons where I don't want to drag around suitcases of outfits for a simple weekend away from home).

this makes me a bad person, then?
