Honestly I see it as any other kind of medical procedure. If OP was getting an appendectomy, couldn't afford it, and asked their fandom for help it wouldn't be a big deal to anyone, and she wouldn't have to lie about it. But abortion is always an OMG BIG DEAL to people because, well, that's just how our society views it, unfortunately. So yeah. I can see how that warranted a lie.
