ayrt

except you don't say "no" just once, you have to say it every time someone new asks, and sadly one "no" doesn't get forwarded to everyone you ever meet who might invite you to X religious thing, you have to tell people as it comes up

and yes, i know not everyone will harass you on the subject, i already said earlier that not everyone responds with "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL" but it does happen and you can't always be sure how people will react

and some people it's just not worth saying "no" to, like mother's friend's daughter's religious coming-of-age ceremony, it's just easier to make one excuse than risk a nasty response, because you know you won't get invited to anything else again

and there are some people you can't say really "no" to, like people at work because having a colleague refuse to work properly with you because he thinks you're going to hell kind of puts a damper on things

and some people take "no" as a challenge, like "OHOHO you don't believe in X religion now but i can save your soul, now I'm going to invite you to X religious thing EVERY SINGLE WEEK and tell you each time that YOU'RE GOING TO HELL BUT NOT IF YOU COME WITH ME" yes every single week, long after i've run out of different ways of saying "no thanks not interested"

and like i said i know it doesn't happen all the time, and believe me those people are awesome, like the christian friend i had who invited me to her confirmation but said WITHOUT ME SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT IT that she'd totally understand if i didn't want to go

so believe me, i get that not all religious people are like that

but really don't you see that sometimes being honest and saying "no thanks not interested" is a lot more awful than just saying "sorry, busy"

sad but true

That's true but this is the anon we're all replying to:

Does she know you're not interested? As someone who has invited friends to church activities (more as a "I don't want to be alone, be a pal and keep me company?" compared to "JESUS WILL SAVE YOU. COME TO CHRIST.") I completely understood when they said they weren't interested in my religion.

So I was responding specifically to them, not talking about Christians in a general sense.
