NO.

She double-crossed her friends. How you can defend something like this is beyond me.

Because she was in a desperate situation where she would have faced great harm otherwise and what she did didn't actually harm anyone.

DA

DECEIVING YOUR FRIENDS IS HARMING THEM. It's not that difficult.

OP didn't take money from anyone against their will. They willingly gave it. They lost nothing that they were not prepared to give.

OP was lying. Yes, that is taking from someone against their will. If they had sex with someone under false pretenses, it would be rape even if they "willing gave it."

When talking about soliciting donations for the false pretense of getting a free computer vs. being forced to continue an unwanted pregnancy, and that's the side you choose for your rape analogy? Wow.

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Actually that was my point. Your logic could be used to justify rape and that's pretty fucked up.

Your logic is moon logic. I'm not sure if that counts as fucked up, but it's pretty damn backwards.

For one thing, there's never any need to rape, or even harm that comes from not raping someone, so to bring that up in comparison is ridiculous.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, that's your logic baby!

If you deliberately lie, it's okay because they gave it up willingly! How is that any different?

Your priorities are fucking skewed if you think it's more important to rage at a woman for lying so that she could have access to abortion than it is to rage at the system that makes it so that women are desperate enough to lie in order to access abortions.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
The two are not mutually exclusive.

OP can be a shitty person even if the system is still shitty too.

Because in the OP's case, the necessity for the lie vastly outweighs the harm caused by the lie.

In your scenario you have something that there is not ever any necessity for that causes great harm to someone else. They're very close to being opposites. Are you serious or trolling?

2/10

no one is actually fucking stupid enough to believe willingly giving money to someone is just like having sex

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well then [livejournal.com profile] visp shouldn't use logic that can apply in exactly the same way to excuse rape.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
She's still a lying, double-crossing weasel. And please, "faced great harm?" Yeah, not being able to have an abortion totally legitimizes being a lying shit.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
actually, yes, where that is the only way to get an abortion it totally does legitimise it

(Anonymous) 2012-04-11 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't make them not a lying, double-crossing weasel.

And I don't like lying, double-crossing weasels.

In what magical lala land is essentially being sick and disabled for 9 months followed by a torturously painful ordeal that can last days - and that's just hoping for no complications - is not "great harm?"

And that's in no way touching the emotional and psychological ramifications.

Not being able to have an abortion is most definitely a great harm - possibly even death. And it does legitimize lying (since, you know, people have been murdered over the issue).
