would being forcibly impregnated through rape count as getting herself in a cruddy situation? Would having to come off vital meds because she was pregnant count as getting herself in a cruddy situation? Would having to carry a non-viable foetus to term at grave risk to her own health count as getting herself in a cruddy situation?

Funny, I'm re-reading the OP's post and don't see anything about rape.

...or her having to come off "vital meds" because she was pregnant. But hey, whatever.

As I said above, it takes two to tango. Unless OP was raped, she and her partner hold full responsibility over her preg-status. Accidental pregnancy not caused by rape? I'd call that getting yourself into a cruddy situation.

I'm not judging the OP's decision to abort. I'm judging the means she chose to achieve it.

it gives no details of why she wanted an abortion. any of the above could apply. I think you should save your rage for the fact that this is a society where someone felt they had to lie and deceive to get the money for a perfectly legal medical procedure.

Less rage and more serious displeasure.

Because our society sucks as a whole we should discount and look the other way when faced with the bad deeds of an individual? People are screwed over by the system every day, but that doesn't excuse any bad actions they partake in.

I wouldn't be arguing so vehemently against the OP's behavior if not for the whole "well, because of the way the society is OP had every right to do what she did" argument. I can understand that OP was obviously pressured, but I'm not going to agree that what she did was in any way okay.

Understanding is one thing. Condoning/approving is another thing entirely.

Well, that's civil disobedience out the window, then

Part of civil disobedience is accepting the consequences that come from the disobedience. Which OP does not seem to be doing. (And I don't call an anonymous admission accepting much of anything.)

Oh, just say it already, you think the OP's a slut and you wish she'd been forced to go through with the pregnancy.

No. I think OP is a liar and a cheat. Her sexual activity and pregnancy status is not my business or concern. But you go right on ahead sticking words in my mouth if it makes you feel better.

Oh, look, it's so difficult for women to access abortions, and abortion is so stigmatized, that they end up lying in order to get the money to afford it. Yes, definitely the woman is the person that deserves criticism and anger, here.

Just because the OP hasn't shared further details about her life doesn't mean that they don't exist. It's a F!S not their biography.

Also, condom broke? Or "better yet" birth control failed even with proper use (can happen!). Is that getting yourself into a cruddy situation?

Yes. Because in most cases, pregnancy is a risk of sex no matter how safe you think you're being. If you are unwilling to carry your baby and unable to pay for an abortion or unwilling to acquire the funds to pay for said abortion in a scrupulous way, you should think twice before choosing to have sex.

What fucking infuriates me about this is that you think that men don't need to consider this as hard as the women. Because I assure you, they don't.

DA.

Did anon specifically say that s/he was referring to women only?

I'm fully aware that men and women are equally to blame when pregnancy happens.

But it's a woman's BODY. Men don't have to carry babies for 9 months. They aren't as personally involved with the idea as women are. When I have sex I make sure to be extra careful because it's MY BODY. Mine. The guy isn't going to get knocked up, I AM. He's not going to have to put up with being pregnant for 9 months, he's not going to have to experience labor, he's not going to have his body and health altered. It's a woman's.

Men and women equally share responsibility when pregnancy occurs, but a woman should always be more careful than men because men don't have any of that shit to worry about and they don't care as much.

That's common sense and I don't see anything wrong with it.

In other words: DAMN SLUT NEEDS TO LEARN HER PLACE

(frozen comment)

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-04-11 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
No.

My right to have sex with a consenting adult is in no way related to my right to not allow (and to actively prevent) another person (or fetus) the use of my body or any part of it without my permission.

Well obviously those damn sluts just deserve to be punished with pregnancy and childbirth

Because babies should be a punishment
