An abortion costs roughly $350. Here's a resource for more information on abortion and a hotline that can help if you're ever in a financially strapped situation again and need another one. http://www.prochoice.org/ They offer the ability not only to find a provider in most locations, but also to help assist women who simply cannot afford to have an abortion.

Choosing to have an abortion is always your right OP and I'm glad that you made the personal decision that was right for you concerning the fetus and that you're do not regret that decision. It's always good to make a clear choice in personal matters such as these.

Now putting that aside, what you did was fraudulent and wrong to your friends list since you went out of your way to lie to them knowing you were going to use the money for a different matter entirely. The fact that the matter was an abortion, doesn't change that what you did was shitty. I understand the need or desire to keep an abortion private or simply not wanting to discuss it in fine detail, however you still chose to approach your flist and 'readers' for help in this situation in a really shitty disingenuous way.

I assume (and honestly hope) you had no other recourse such as parents, real life friends or the fetuses biological donor to help in defraying the costs and with a limited time window I can understand the move to panic or jump into donation asking mode, but understand there are resources. A lot of walk in clinics can help provide information.

Whatever happens to you in the future OP I hope you're using stable birth control and taking care of yourself. And feel lucky that you had a kind, generous friends list who willingly donated that 'significant' sum.
