I'm side-eying this story because I doubt anyone would choose donating to replace a computer part over a medical procedure.

General comments? WHAT THE FLYING FUCK!? Yes, it's fraud (hm, might not be where OP lives, still lying), but it does say a lot about the society we live in and the stigma of having an abortion. Then I read the comments... Honestly people, how about I decide whether all of you should donate your kidneys? Oh, don't want to donate a kidney? YOU'RE A HORRIBLE HUMAN BEING! Nope, not comparing fetuses with kidneys, just controlling someone's body.

Yes, but some people would love to decide of others should have abortion or not and feel justified to pass judgement on them. That's why I made the kidney comment - what if someone wanted to make that decision for you or judged it?

OK, fair enough- so many people have been going on about "but is it really a lie if she's DESPERATE?" that I can't tell rational arguments apart from the crazy ones anymore.

I still think OP is a bad person- I understand they were desperate, but they still committed fraud and betrayed their friends' trust, which I just can't support, even if they were using the money to, like, I don't know, save the world or something. They still committed fraud.

I wouldn't say they're a bad person, they lied or commited fraud depending on location. That's shitty indeed and sometimes life's shitty and not all black and white, sometimes you have to make shitty decisions.
