Really? If I found out she'd used the money for an abortion without telling me, I'd be sad that my friend had been so desperate and scared that she felt she couldn't ask for help up front. I wish she wouldn't have had to do it that way but I wouldn't be pissed at her. I'd be pissed at the society and individuals that put her in that position and I'd help her in any way I could and make it clear to her that she would never have to lie to get help from me.

No, society isn't innocent, but neither is OP. Society doesn't make it easy, but [friend/OP] actively chose to lie to me. They don't get off scot-free just because society sucks.

Because from the secret, OP already seems to feel guilty about what they did. She was desperate. I don't blame her for that. I don't think what she did was good, but I've also never been in a situation where I was desperate enough that I'd need to lie to get money to fund an abortion. I don't see what there is to gain from telling her that she's a horrible evil person, aside from some twisted sense of moral superiority.

I do care that she is a shitty human being to lie to her friends. Anon apology is a load of shit and you know it. She posted it here for her own good, not the good of her friends, so yeah, I'm going to call a spade a spade.

DA. OP chose to lie probably because she knew people wouldn't help her otherwise. Is it deceitful? Yes. But it's also damn smart. I would be annoyed if I was one of the friends, but that's because I personally keep an abortion fund in my savings account so that I will never be in this situation; had it been one of my friends and had they been honest, I would have given her as much as she needed for it. I'd be annoyed at the lost opportunity and unnecessary deceit, but probably nothing else.

But this is just my opinion. And frankly, the fact that there's a lot of disagreement about this is pretty solid proof that OP did what was necessary to get the money.

No she didn't. It would have been easy to discuss a vague medical procedure and raise the money. Lying was cowardly and proves how little she values her friends.
