I'm so depressed that I can't read the comments relating to no 08. D:

I didn't know that we were still living in the 1950s before today. Holy fuckballs, Batman.

~~Libertarianism~~ Government So Small, It Fits Directly Inside Your Uterus!

...If it makes you feel any better, imagine they're all trolling.

Yeah, I can't even bring myself to read to the comments after yesterday's. If people are judgemental assholes over someone copying a fanfiction, I dread to think what they'll be like when there is actual money and a real issue involved. My heart goes out to the OP and I think she did the right thing.

I got here waaaay too late to say as much on the thread proper, but I wonder if it occurs to any of the anons showering the OP with vitriol over her decision are unintentionally justifying the course of action she took better than any abstract rationalization ever could?

Yep. The thing about being a judgemental asshole is that it encourages people to lie when they are desperate or panicking so they can avoid the judgemental fucking assholes. I also wonder if those sanctimonious asses have ever really been through an experience that makes them realise what judgemental assholes other people can be. I read an article a while back about anti-abortion campaigners seeking abortions for themselves and their families, and they all had a special pleading which they assured the abortion providers made them special from the regular women who came to the centers. Turned out,, those special pleadings were almost exactly the same as the reasons the normal folks gave. Its easy to be a preaching saint when it isn't you in trouble I guess. It's even easier to be a hypocrite when it is you in trouble and you've already set yourself up as the paragon of morality too.

To be sure, the deception was unfortunate, but I have grave doubts about the maturity or intelligence of anyone who doesn't understand that to out oneself - publicly, as everything on the internet ultimately is - as having an abortion is tantamount to admitting to being a murderer in the eyes of some, and that hardline prolife types can and do take violent actions against those they see as "baby killers". Even if her friends specifically aren't among them, the chance of it getting out and damaging her future social and professional reputation is extremely high in some regions of the world. We don't know whether or not she lives in one, of course, or if it was medically necessary (though from the sounds of things it was certainly financially necessary) so why assume she doesn't?

Of course, the comments comparing it to business fraud take a lack of maturity and intelligence beyond doubt...
