ayrt.

I am, because in my experience most of the time they're not only completely unreasonable, but just as hypocritical. That's why I have no love for SJWs anymore. They're just another brand of crazy, one I'd rather avoid.

I'm very happy being in the middle with the people who come to fandom to enjoy it, not argue about every little thing, most of which isn't even a problem. Ex: the whole "omg, dean winchester is sooo misogynistic, let's make a huge ruckus about how horrible he is and bash anyone who won't see things our way!" fiasco that was really popular a few years back.

They think they're cool, they think they're doing "good", but most of the time they're just being really fucking annoying, taking shit out of context, exaggerating things and blowing shit out of proportion, all the while looking down on people who have different opinions and don't see it their way. Not to mention dismissing, if not demeaning, people who they don't feel have a "right" to have an opinion or feel a certain way, such as men, white people, religious people, and so on.

I was all on board the SJW train myself for a while before I realized what it really was: just a bunch of radical, self-important, hypocritical crazies who like to hear themselves talk. I want no part of it.

No, see, here's the part you're missing: SJWs aren't "crazy". They point out sexism, racism, homophobia, etc. in media because it is really important to discuss that shit. Seriously, it really is.

And Dean Winchester is a misogynist. I'm sorry, I love the guy too, but he is. It's not "crazy" or "stupid" or whatever to acknowledge the actual truth of a character as written on the show.

Um... no. First of all, yes, I do look down on people who are too bigoted or idiotic to realize the importance of analyzing bigotry and ignorance in media, that's true. Not all SJWs do, but some. /shrug Ask me if I care what some bigot thinks.

As for the other part-- yeah, SHOCKINGLY, the opinions of privileged people who do not experience -isms are less important in discussions of -isms, especially when they, like YOU, RIGHT HERE, are DEFENDING them. By objecting to SJWs, you are defending sexism, racism, homophobia, etc. in media. People who do not experience, for example, sexism (MEN) tend to defend presentations of sexism (as you did above with your dismissive "oh some CRAZIES think this misogynistic lead in a misogynistic show is misogynistic, AREN'T THEY STUPID") because they do not understand it or experience it. Further, even if they don't defend the shit, their opinion is, in fact, less valuable because they basically do not and never will know what the fuck they're talking about wrt sexism.

And no, men do not have a "right" to feel like sexism is okay. White people do not have a "right" to think that racism is okay. It's disgusting bullshit. Defending sexism/racism/etc. like men, white people, etc. do when SJWs point out the -isms in media is DISGUSTING AND WRONG, full stop. But instead of pointing the finger at the people who are perpetuating those -isms, you decide that the ones "in the wrong" are the ones daring to point out the bias and bigotry in your pwecious show that is so beautiful it must be beyond, you know, the societal and institutionalized biases of our society. You're basically saying no one is allowed to criticize these things in media, because... what? You don't like it? You think it's "crazy" that someone might think these things are important?

Seriously, you sound like a pissed off white dude who can't deal with the fact that people have a problem with the way women and POC are dealt with on your precious television show and might dare to call it out. It's not a good look.

(P.S. "Crazy" is considered by many to be an ableist slur, and your continued use throughout your comment irked me both on that level and in the way that people -- men -- have historically dismissed women with genuine issues as just "crazy" and "shit-stirring". Congrats on behaving in an ableist and misogynistic way, I guess?)

Okay dude I'm not in SPN anymore but seriously: take a deep breath. You are making assumptions about the person you're talking to as well, which is not a good look. Yes, it's important to talk about social justice issues -- by debating the source material, not leaping to "you sound like a white dude". (That just opens you up to "hurr hurr, I'm actually an [insert race/gender here]", and then the person happily ignores everything you had to say.)

Also, for the record, there IS such a thing as SJ gone too far. That includes shit like SJW telling me how to react to my own fucking sexual assault. Or claiming that straight male 'bronies' must be disturbed and/or users for 'co-opting female space' (yet adult female bronies are somehow okay). I don't know if that sort of thing is what the poster was referring to, but I can definitely see where it would lead someone to wash their hands of the whole movement.

I made a few assumptions below, but in the above comment I don't -- I say what they sound like to me, because that's what they sound like. If it's wrong, whatever-- but that they stopped replying to me is pretty telling, I think.

What happened re: your sexual assault is disgusting, I'm sorry that happened. (Male "bronies" are really fucking problematic though. They claim, frequently, that MLP:FiM is created and aimed at them as its target audience, that they are the largest part of fandom, etc. and perpetuate disgusting, -ist ideas like pony porn, the "save Derpy" movement, seriously racist, homophobic and sexist remarks all over their sites and forums, transphobic and sexist slurs hurled at a vocal objector to "Derpy"/Bubblecup's original portrayal in the show, and more -- including threatening to r*pe and/or murder female fans who objected to them or their "causes". Adult female fans of the show are fine because by and large, for one thing, they are not "bronies". "Bronies" refers largely to a specific group of straight, white adult men who are fans of the show, usually obsessively. While there are women who consider themselves "bronies," they frequently do not participate in this group or were wrongly informed (possibly by actual "bronies") that anyone who is a fan of MLP is a "brony". Orrr there's some serious internalized misogyny going on. It happens.)

The people who do awful things in the name of social justice aren't really who they're talking about, though. They seem to be referring to... well, anyone who dares to question anything they're into. :\ It's deeply problematic and I'm freaking tired of people going "OMG SJWS ARE THE WORST" and shit. Ugh.
