Blaine is a terrible character, I'll agree with you on that.

My feelings on Darren Criss are complicated -- he isn't half as talented as his hardcore stans make him out to be. That's not to say he has no talent, he's just not 'oh my god flawless'. He clearly needs more practice in the acting department, particularly serious parts. I get embarrassed for him half the time and have to mute my tv when he's having a dramatic/angry moment, and rib+ have been giving him a lot of those lately. He's a pretty good comedic actor. His singing voice is nice, enough, but any song I have downloaded by him is one I appreciate because of the arrangement, not his rather average pop voice. But I don't hate him. And I find it tends to be one or other in this fandom -- you either think he's shit or a god.

He seems like a nice dude, though, so I wish him luck. (I don't think I'd get along with him in real life, but that's a whole other can of worms).

Also a lot of his fans scare me.

I agree. I dislike Darren a lot, and I have a feeling it has a lot more to do with his fans than him himself.

I'd just like to comment on this as a Darren fan.
I think he is AMAZING- I love his personality and weird sense of humor. But on the other hand, I've never been able to side with the people that love Blaine. I don't hate him, but I don't find him that interesting either- plus, I agree that Darren isn't a great actor. I cringe through most of his serious scenes, and I giggled all through Fighter because oh my god that was silly.
I think that Glee is sort of a waste of his talent. I love his voice, but even when he was still regularly with Starkid I never would have put him at the top of the lists, vocally. I really want him to go back to songwriting and performing on stage, which I really think is his strong suit.
I really appreciate that you made it clear you hate Blaine but not Darren, though. I get really frustrated when people hate on Darren as a person because he seems like one of the nicest guys and doesn't deserve any hate.

I think the kid is way charismatic, but I don't really follow him outside of Glee or anything (although I think he will probably do pretty well after it's over). I have to agree with you that they don't seem to *quite* know what to do with Blane on Glee sometimes. During the Whitney episode, when Kurt said "It's Ok!" And Blane said "It's not right, but it's OK?" I literally said "I don't know if I can do this," and thought I was going to have to turn off the TV. And like you said, Fighter was 100 pounds of DO NOT WANT, although I forgave everything because I adore the song "Somebody that I used to Know" and Matthew Boamer IS both a Disney Prince and the most attractive man in North America, and the PERFECT person to play Blane's older brother, and I nearly had a stroke when I saw a preview of them singing that song together, and that whole episode was AWESOME if you can forget about Fighter which I certainly can WHAT Xtina song?? Doesn't ring a bell...

I think he's a good actor but man Glee sometimes. My sister is a Darren Criss stan and so I went with her to go see his Broadway performance of How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying and he was actually really good. Not AMAZING (i.e. seeing Sweeney Todd in the West End totally blew him out of the water, no contest), but more like he has a really natural charisma that lead well to the part. It's also a part that doesn't require a lot of drama and included a good deal of metaphoric winking at the audience, so there's that. IMO he still has a long way to go in terms of singing and acting skills but he has a lot more charisma than most of his other counterparts on Glee and that could go far.

But on Glee I miss the Warblers. :( The Warblers album is the only Glee album I actually own and listened to a lot, but that's mostly because the acapella arrangements were very good and were actually pretty interesting.

I agree with a lot of what you said here: I think that it may not be acting or even singing ability per say, but when it comes to charisma he kind of blows a lot of the others on that show out of the water. And it definitely shows through when you watch him perform vs. when you listen to him sing. When I watch his music numbers, like the recent disco song that opened the Saturday Night Fever ep, or the song he did at the prom, for example, I really sit up and take notice. But if you download those songs? Eh, they're fine, but they don't stand out from the rest of the group. And I do have to agree with you about missing the Warblers! I just got a bunch of Glee CD's at the library, and the Warblers one is the best NO CONTEST.

The arrangement and back up vocals on the Warblers album is the amazing work of the Beelzebubs.

I was a fan of Darren's before he was on Glee. The only reason I started watching Glee and remain watching Glee is because of him. I can not stand the character Blaine, or at least what the character has become in the 3rd season. I personally can not wait for his time on Glee to be over. Sure I want success for Darren as an actor but I think most fans are putting him on a too high pedestal. I always wonder if they're fans of his or just because he plays Blaine and is "OMGZZZ IZ GAYZ!" I can't wait to see him in other things. I personally preferred his work on Eastwick more.

...I will never understand the hate for Blaine. I really just don't get what there is to hate about him. He loves Kurt, CLEARLY, and Kurt obviously loves him back. They're good for each other: Kurt helps Blaine try new things, and Blaine gives Kurt the emotional support that he needs. I feel like I'm missing something.

I don't really hate Blaine. I really liked him when he was first on the show, but now something about him just rubs me wrong. There are a few things that he has done that if he was my boyfriend he would have gotten the boot a long time ago.

I can't bring myself to believe that a character could be good for Kurt if he tells Kurt to tone himself down, tells him he's not sexy enough while making totally ridiculous faces himself (and lets face it, Kurt is fine just the way he is), has the emotional intelligence of a lemming (I mean... god, I can't believe what a douche he keeps being - mostly at Kurt) and is egoistical and hypocritical.

I cannot stand Blaine hogging the screen and overshadowing Kurt (and other characters) constantly. Also, the bad acting doesn't endear him to me (Darren may be good at stage and I've seen him perform live and have liked it, but when the camera is right in front of his face, his 'acting' makes me cringe constantly).

Tldr; I just want Kurt date someone else than Blaine. And I mean... just anyone else and I'm happy. I think every single guy on the show would be a better match with him than Blaine (sexualities aside). Hell, invent a new character and I'd be game.

Okay, I'll agree with you on the telling Kurt to tone himself down in the Warblers, that seems like a weird out-of-character thing for someone who's going to be written as Kurt's boyfriend.

But...I'm honestly confused on the other things. I've been watching the same show as you, when has he been constantly being a douche to Kurt? He agreed to go with Kurt to prom, even though he was scared of being bashed. He also got Kurt to go out onto the dance floor, in public, to show them that they weren't ashamed. You can't POSSIBLY tell me Kurt was actually "sexy" making silly faces - adorable and sweet and overall adding to his character, yes, but Kurt TRYING to be sexy looks ridiculous, while his normal performances and demeanor certainly is sexy. I think Blaine knows this, and was trying to help him channel that. Criticism doesn't automatically mean that that one criticizing is a douche! Overshadowing Kurt and other characters? I would argue that the Rachel/Finn dynamic has been doing that even more. At least Blaine & Kurt are interesting to watch.

And really, his acting could be so, SO, much worse. I've seen it, on television and on stage. On the scale of things, Darren really isn't a bad actor. Could be better, but he's also adorable.

I still don't get it. I guess TETO, but I will continue to be happy and smiling any time Kurt & Blaine are together & being adorable on screen.

Yeah, I didn't really like him telling Kurt to tone himself down, not to mention the a huge double-standard since he kept hogging all the solos himself.

Also, Blaine saw a tone downed version of Kurt and only then fell for him. I don't like the implications of that.

Blaine told Kurt he looks like had gas pains and that he needs practice looking sexy, like Kurt's not good enough as himself. He could have told Kurt that he was sexy just the way he is, which is true, but nope. Well... most I remember of the prom was Kurt being humiliated and instead of showing actual support, Blaine was chillin' on the floor. Again, not the supportive boyfriend I would have liked for Kurt.

There's been several scenes where Blaine has come off as a douche. Or just emotionally blind and having no sense for other people feelings. Like comparing Kurt's mother's funeral to that of an animal (I wouldn't appreciate my boyfriend asking me if my mother's burial was like that of a bird), how he serenaded the gap-guy (Sebastian?) and outed him in public, the same what he tried to do to Karofsky with confronting a sensitive issue at public place (in school!). Or how Kurt confessed his feelings for Blaine and he goes and kisses Kurt's best friend. How Blaine compared Kurt to the guy that harassed Kurt both physically and sexually, way to go Blaine. Also it's kinda sad that the said guy showed more consideration for Kurt (with the romantic gestures etc.) during the Valentine's Day than Kurt's own boyfriend.

How Blaine kept pushing Kurt to sex (Kurt's 'this is the least I've felt being intimate with anyone! and either you can't tell or you don't care' speech breaks my heart) and it was Kurt who ended apologizing for that. Which he seems to do all the time.

Overall Blaine.... comes off as terrible patronizing, condescending, entitled etc.

I don't mean the overshadowing quite that way (though the amount of solos they've given to Blaine is ridiculous when you compare that to Kurt). Rachel/Finn hogs a lot of screen time and but it's natural because they have been the couple from the start, but I meant inside the pairing. With Finn, Rachel gets to shine, like the bright star she is. Blaine.... seems to dim Kurt and his shine.

I want someone for Kurt who can support him and reflect his light, instead of dimming him.

Mileages vary, I guess. I can't bring myself to enjoy Kurt/Blaine at all, but a good thing there's people who do! :)
